Re: Paints

I've tried looking there but can't seem to find Indian red, which I imagine is what the FR are using in the image above The paint used by the FR used to be called Mercedes Red. but I believe it is now just called "FR carriage maroon" or similar and mixed by the manufacturer as required. A...

If you want to use rattle cans (spray cans) Halfords or a decent paint factor. Works out cheaper than humbrol sprays. I have seen a conversion chart for rail colours from car colours but I can't for the life of me remember where. Halfords can be reasonably helpful as they can mix odd colours. Most ...

The other question was, what's the best way to simulate varnished wood without actually having varnished wood? Chris Scumbling - google it. It's a technique frequently used on the inside of vintage coaching stock in 12" to the foot scale. What I've googled so far on scumbling has given me a ma...

I must admit I am tempted by the IP VOR Matchboard coaches. Not complete accurate for the vision in terms of their "fudgability" onto WDLR frames, but they're the right era and I think they look the part that the owners of the line would have gone for...hmmmm

Paints

Hello all, Is it still accepted that spraying is the best way of painting rolling stock? If so, in the absence of an airbrush, what would be the best place to get aerosol paints from? Looking for the current red and cream used on the FR (or similar): http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o206/Spud2k/Ff...

Coaches

Hey all, I'm really struggling with coaches. I have never scratch built anything in my life, bar a 7mm flat wagon many moons ago, but can't seem to find a kit that suits what I'm looking for. My fictional line uses stock constructed almost exclusively from ex-WDLR kit, so I've been trying to find ki...

Hi Andrew,

How do you find they work in practice? Are they compatible with each other and do they help with stock of varied heights?

Just come across a chap in America who makes some of the best quality scale figures I've found yet. Yes, they are 1:20 but it's close enough, isn't it? http://scalehumans.com/orderform?NGF

Thanks for the heads up Brian, seeing your close up pictures has made me think I will dip my hand in my pocket for the Andel kit afterall.

I'll keep an eye open for Swanswood Andy, I like the look of their Stores Van, something to shift my tea chests around in!

The two that look most promising for me at the moment are either the Swift Sixteen drawbar couplings ( http://www.swiftsixteen.com/productDetails.php?productID=77 ) or the Brandbright multi-height ones ( http://www.brandbright.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=170 ) or some combination...

I had noticed that, I'm waiting to see how their armoured simplex turns out, might just be my first locomotive buy! I'm also looking at their bogie coaches for the main passenger stock and their bogie box van for transporting the tea chests around (might have to modify them with some ventilation tho...

Couplings

Hey Folks, I'm currently exploring couplings as I begin getting my stock together and somewhat uniform. As the premise is mostly old WDLR stock, I want it to be semi-authentic and scale size. I've got a few tippers that use chain couplings but this doesn't feel right with locomotives (especially WDL...

Durable Railcar

Hello Folks, Could anyone point me in the direction of a good, durable railcar? The railway I am planning to build (SM32) is undoubtedly going to have some kid interaction and I'd like them to be able to play with something that's almost indestructible. I'm thinking along the lines of the Faller e-t...
