I have to explain most jokes to my eldest daughter. She just says "I don't get it". I don't tell her any now. They're not as funny when you have to explain them.

Re: Enlargement - Part the Second.
It would appear that to protect polystyrene chips in transit they pack them with steam engines. This was not expected until Friday, however Postman Pat's big brother turned up with this at lunchtime, thankfully I was in and the current wife wasn't. Current wife?? Do you tend to change them often? I...

Re: Katie in the Sunshine
I rather like the Katie in Blue livery. Somehow to me it suits it.
Lovely railway too.

Re: A Burnt Burner?
I'm not familiar with the burner, never having taken my Roundhouse loco apart. Please can someone post a picture or tell me where I can find a picture of what the burner should look like for comparison?
I'd be interested to know what makes the posters think it's melted or cracked.
Thanks,
Ian

Re: India
I have a vague recollection of arriving in and then reversing out on a journey in the UK. Memory is not good enough to recall the location though. For a short while we used to do that at Bury on the East Lancashire Railway before the signalling and trackwork was complete at Bury Bolton Street, South...
Re: India
I agree with Andrew, Fascinating.
There's loads of inspiring pictures and information.
It is unlikely I will be fortunate to experince India for myself. If other forum users are not interested, they don't have to read your thread. I doubt this is the case for many of us.

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1
I am enjoying this build, even though it is way beyond my ability and expertise. However what I like is the fact that as much as possible it is following full sized loco practices. I am involved in the preservation world too as a hobby and one of the reasons for me owning a steam locomotive is it is...

Re: Bielefeld Hf110c on Roundhouse chassis.
I agree about the paint scheme. Much better in blue. My live steam loco was almost blue, but maroon won in the end by a small margin. My next loco might be blue.
It's even more impressive because it's prototypical.

Re: Naive, Lofty, Idealistic dreams of a first layout
I have a Roundhouse locomotive. Their website does helpfully state what radius each loco will go round. In my case 30 inches. However as state above there is also stock to consider. Long vehicles will have overhang and possibly if propelling, buffer/ coupling issues. Also unless you undertake some f...

Re: New Station Building
Philip, that's an interesting reply. As a small business owner ( a hairdressing business run by my daughter) I completely understand the thinking behind your reply. Unless one is wealthy enough to be unconcerned about not making money, or worse losing it, then the bottom line i.e. profits the only t...
Re: Music
I'm in agreement with Rod. Classic FM, radio 2 or local BBC radio ( for traffic news) in the car. I resist all attempts from passengers for radio 1. The modern stuff doesn't do anything for me either. I find it irritating. I'd rather have silence.

Re: Merlins Castle Line
Julie, Great to follow the progress of your line. I wish when I bought my house I'd known I was going to want a railway in my garden. I'd have made sure my garden was bigger. Now I'm limited to a small plot. At the time I wanted something easy to maintain. If I put a shed in my garden the size of yo...

Re: The End Of FWLR
Rod, Sorry you're having to close your railway. I do hope that you and Anne can find somewhere you can settle and resume doing that which you both enjoy. I hope you can continue to run your trains, even if it's only as a guest on other lines. That, sadly is my only option at the moment. It does have...
