Both the classic and basic have proper slide valves its just that the latter are controlled by slip eccentrics.

Yes the body is soldered together. Its also how Roundhouse make the bodies themselves in their factory. Different manufacturers use  various other methods (for example cast  brass). Please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the boiler design for the Roundhouse kit locos (Fowler, Billy, Katie and ...

I'm not sure there's a whole Haynes manual. Their rather good (in my opinion) Garden Railway Manual does include a chapter on building a Lady Anne from a kit, complete with loads of photographs. It certainly helped me when I built a Billy (the locos are built with a fairly similar construction techn...

Its easy enough but you have to follow the instructions very carefully. They're rather wordy and could do with a few more diagrams in my view.

The cast reverser on your loco is so much better than the later pressed steel affair.

I too have wondered why Mamod fitted the blow down as it sticks out to the side and has a habit of catching things. I guess the best use for it is to open the valve immediately you've finished steaming for the day to ensure there's no danger of steam oil being sucked back into the boiler as everythi...

I take back what I said previously about the Telford being on the small side. If you've read the chatter on the 16mmngm group about the new Accucraft Decauville 0-4-0 and then read up on the details, especially the dimensions, the Telford isn't too small at all to appeal to the Garden Rail community...

Its the end of the piston valve that controls the inlet and outlet of steam to and from the cylinder.

Fingers crossed it all works well. I've already made a replacement steam regulator which should be far more sensitive so allowing me to fit a radio control servo with just 90 degrees of movement. I had been hoping the back of the cab would be designed as coal bunker (think Accucraft Ragleth) but no ...

Internally fired boilers are more efficient than externally fired ones as, being surrounded by water there's a greater heating surface. Even so they're not great compared with a multi-tubed boiler but frankly it rarely matters assuming the design of the external pot boiler has an effective heat shie...

I've just got my PC working again after a disk crash and discovering none of the backups this side of February 2012 were readable. Any emails received since then, including the detailed ones from Chris, have unfortunately been lost. Anyway, am now back on line and have been reading the news section ...

Both the regulator and the gas valve on my Brunel are threaded 6 BA. Of course, this doesn't mean that other Brunels are the same as Mamod have a policy of "constant improvement" which some might cynically rephrase as "what we have a surplus of".

I believe Mamod are now closed until the first full week of the New Year. As for the thread, Mamod have used a variety of sizes, mainly imperial but with the odd Metric one thrown in for good measure (for example, the Telford regulator seems to be M3 x 0.35). I'll take the regulator out of my Brunel...

Yes, 220 not 240. No idea why I keep getting it wrong but I usually do, just as I keep spelling "amount" as "ammount". I have a bottle of Regner 460 steam oil (that came with my Lumber Jack kit) and that works fine with not only my Regners but also my Accucraft and Brunel. Confus...

Hi Bill

240 oil is the thinner grade used by Roundhouse, so you can buy it directly from them (I did). Virtually all other makers of steam locos use the 460 grade oil.

That's great to see, I had been hoping Peter would get a video out in plenty of time before the launch next year. I wonder why its not on their official website. Although the video is quite fuzzy, looking carefully I think the tender has a single central buffer as well. Maybe they'll bring out other...

I'm hesitant to steam it in case there's a problem.
A very wise decision
