I was there myself two weeks ago. A superb country for all sorts of reasons.

But I do think Interlaken is the Swiss version of Blackpool. Too touristy, and so even more expensive than everywhere else.

Noice piccies- don't have any more of the interesting looking hopper thing on the VoR do you by any chance? They are ex-SAR Y1 hoppers, identical to those on the WHR, except that they are not as rusty and have had their vacuum brakes replaced by air. http://whr.bangor.ac.uk/2000/ballast0500-1.jpg h...

There's a short unused stretch of unused line near us from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Trawsfynydd, and there has been lots of talk in the local paper about that becoming a velo-railway... There's another unused stretch of line from Porthmadog to Hafod y Llyn too, but you'd need some narrow gauge bikes f...

Very interesting...

Will the saddle tank carry water?
If so, are you going to use an axle pump, hand pump, or both?

If not, how are you planning to get water in to the boiler while it is in steam?

Oooohhh... the memories... shudder. I'd forgotten about that huge empty space on top of the bolier/firebox. The original coal bunkers either side of the firebox now contain brake gear and electrical equipment. This loco is also missing its "greedy boards" around the coal space, making the ...

Blimey! That looks even more complicated than it used to do! The compressor used to be powered by a double chain drive off the tender back axle with a convoluted clutch mechanism so that only one chain drove depending on the direction of travel, as the compressor's direction of rotation had to be co...

And willingly granted!

Perhaps we should have another session with the sole purpose of doing some filming, and I'll make sure the grass is cut.

That garratt only just fits along that girder bridge!!! I have to admit to being a little anxious on Christmas Day last year when the Garratt made its first trip around my line, pushed by hand. There used to be a pair of tunnel mouths where the line passes through the fence, and they had to go to a...

Errrr.... Lady Anne had a massive upgrade and re-design in 1995 and now bears little or no resemblance to the pre-1995 version that shared chassis and boiler with Dylan. See http://www.roundhouse-eng.com/museum.htm#ladyanne The Silver Lady is even further removed from Dylan! However, my experience t...

Does it go backwards properly yet? It didn't at the FR. Full gear and full regulator to achieve any kind of result, which included the water vanishing! And don't get me started on the convoluted air/vacuum/hand braking system, or the tender spectacle plate that has a different radius to the cab and ...

I heard today that Roundhouse are planning to do a batch of Jacks, last made in 1998, provided they can get sufficient advance orders. Personally, I have always fancied an Archangel Rheidol 2-4-0T: http://www.archangel-works.com/renov-02.html Internally meths fired and with a single cylinder (the vi...

thanks, I'll need to get a blow torch for he anneiling. (I believe that is what it is called) Close, it is annealing. You don't necessarily need a blow torch. By holding the copper pipe carefully and firmly at one end in a pair of pliers, you can heat it in the flame of ring on your mum's gas cooke...

Thanks! I'll guarantee that the couplings won't pull off and the floor won't collapse, unlike some of the Minffordd examples.
