I have also bought a MFA Motor to use but my searches for suitable bevel gears was not a success. I have bought one too and had worked out that the only way to do it was with the motor off centre driving a lay-shaft out side the wheel base with power to the wheels via chain and sprocket. So far I h...

Depends on the size but stealing the RC gear from a cheap RC car at about 10 quid would be the cheapest. This would only work for the smaller motors though. Yes it works, but many of these only give you full forward or full reverse. No in between speed. Usually need at least 6v supply too, which me...

This is the first time I have read this one Rob and I would of been very tempted from the start to do something with the track and that swimming pool of yours ;) The track looks dead level as your Bertie puffs along very steadily! Yes it is indeed very level and ignores the potential of the area ar...

When I stopped posting on this thread 3 years ago, I was about to go on a trip to the UK. The line was laid to the extent that can be seen here and was intended to be a temporary affair to last a couple of years. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/408/20009043460_2e96ceb645_z.jpg FT_Phase1 The track ran...

Well I am somewhat surprised to find that it is nearly 3 years since I last posted on this Thread. Some things have happened on the Fredericktown Tramway (FT) during that time. The railway was originally intended to be a testing place for ideas to put into place in my retirement, which should have h...

Apologies all, for the tardy acknowledgement of all the advice. Andy, thanks for the kind offer but I don't think I will take it up. I have decided to try and build a lighting unit based a bit on what dewintondave did using the end of a torch, but connected to some rechargeable button cells. Once I ...

Working 16mm or G scale headlamp
Hi, following a rather disastrous attempt at night running with my grandson, I am keen to fit some sort of headlamp to my RH Bertie. Since we are a colonial line, it can be a bit ,well, colonial in outline, which includes of course USA. I had hoped that I could find something sold as a spare in the ...

These seem to be the Newqida stuff. I bought a box of 4 coaches and reqauged them to 32mm. I used Binnie wheels on 3mm steel rod axles. It is probably better to replace the wheels even if you leave them at 45mm. The wheels they come with are rather brittle plastic with coarse treads. The quality of ...

Drawing from the buffer or the bogie??
Inspired by the article in the recent Garden Rail, I ordered a quartet of Newqida coaches from Hammonds in the US in order to convert them to 32mm gauge They arrived today, jolly prompt service in fact so I had a look at them in company with the article. Now, the article suggests moving the centre b...

Hi You can get a copy of the Binnie engineering catalogue at http://www.summerlands-chuffer.co.uk/binnie-engineering/4577586364 Contact details are on the catalogue. I have always found that Peter Binnie is happy to take email orders from Australia, so I would expect that you could ask him to post s...
