They do yes, mine last because they only get steamed once a week maybe Fair play to RH for the tech support though. I'm about 2/3rds the way to raising the costs for a Bertie - the last mamod sold and the junkyard clearance in full swing is helping.

All Roundhouse basic locomotives are wonderful in everyway. If you really want to upgrade them, water top up MAYBE? Honestly, they do not need to be upgraded at all. They're perfect as is! Thanks for that -- Duly noted. I do know they run very well - having seen them in action at Llechfan and Butte...

I'll try and take some photos of what I mean by opening out the gaskets - all it is is taking a needle file, and filing into the gasket material approximately where it partially obstructs the steam holes on the cylinder. Since the last post the Mamod which will eventually be named Baz has been fitted with a large capacity meths tank and to cure her somewhat lacklustre performance she's now fitted with Roy Wood cylinders and a reversing block from the same stable. Seen on test with any loose items left off. ./myff/2...

No rivets usually means an SL-K but also the rivets could have been removed by previous owner for ease of maintenance.

How did you seal the wood? Was it brush on or aerosol?
