Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
HI Andrew, Brilliant pictures, I loved the 'pan' shot too. The train looks great. It may have been early but you seemed to drum up a respectable number of passengers! I haven't run a train at all yet this year. The state of the track on the CFLR and the amount of work required to make it fit has put...

Re: Scratch Built Wagons....
On the Midland Railway wagons were painted grey. Even as new that could vary between a pale grey and a dark grey. The reason was that the wagon paint was 'stretched out' by mixing in all the scraps of paint from the paint shop, so the 'colour of the day' depended on what other vehicles were being pa...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Hi Andrew, A very suitable way to spend the time, if I may say so. That's a very nice looking train in a very nice setting. I managed to clear some vegetation from my own line this weekend but it only revealed how disappointing my track is! Yours on the other hand looks very nice, well established b...

Re: A Quiet Sunday
Hi Grant, You have a real knack for the subtle. I've said before how much your pictures feel like looking at railway in old photos. (of course, it IS a real railway in it's own right - but you know what I mean). One of the subtleties I noticed in the first photo was the layout and spacing of the sid...

Re: Why do we do it?
I very much agree with Keith and Andrew. Live steam was a big thing for me, plus the 'reality' of an outdoor railway - it is a real railway in my eyes. Those where the attractions of the garden. The fact that it allows quite large items of rolling stock when you are working in 16mm is a huge spin of...

Hi Rod,
Nice to see you back and to hear things are getting better for you.
The wagon looks great -far better than anything I could achieve.
Take it easy,

Re: Shuntomatic System 3000 - 2022 edition
HI Andrew, This is great stuff! I love the idea of being able to run the system on paper. It's coming on a treat. Just a though about bogie wagon loads. Although the wagon counts for 2, the load may only be a single one if it is a long load (timber, steel, etc) that is too long for a single wagon. C...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Hi Andrew and Rik, I'm just catching up here. That photo of Russel at the head of a rake of wagons is a real beauty. I've no doubt it was just the WHR version of a 'mega-shunt' but the thought of it with a brake at the rear, setting off along the line is really enticing! It was carrying freight that...

Re: GVT in miniature
Hi Rik, Sounds like a good idea and a great project. I share our fascination with the GVT and look forward to seeing this develop. Considering the drop in temperatures this morning I'm sure most peoples thoughts have turned to indoor projects. That's a great picture, full of useful detail - but what...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Always nice to see things stirring on the (WH)WHR. I like your photo's Andy, looks like it was fun, no matter how brief. Like Rik, my line is covered in leaves again. That's where it's not overgrown! I took an hour to cut a 5 yard stretch out of the creeping thymes last weekend. They make for hard w...

Re: Recycled plastic track base
Hi Andy, I'll be interested to see if you experience any movement of the track alignment or level. This is pretty much the system I used for my line. I had several years of kinks appearing, wild crosslevel variations and some tightening of curves. Things seem to be settling down a bit now but the ju...

Re: 32mm TurnTable
Like the others, I'm afraid I'm not in the market for a turntable. I can't imagine how you both must feel at having to move again. That's hard enough at the best of times but if Rod's not well on top of it all it must be thoroughly disheartening. I hope the move goes as well as it can for the both o...

Hi Andrew, It does look good. You can see how long it's taken - the undergrowth is growing under and around the wheels! Seriously though, it's a superb build but I particularly like the finish of the roof and the vac pipe is brill. It has always surprised me that (by and large) brake vans wer...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Hi Andrew, These photo's are even better than the last! The train looks fantastic and I look forward to seeing them behind a WHR loco. I know what you mean about finding things, I'm about two years into a 'sort out' - the first eighteen months involved thinking about it! I've got miles to go yet but...

Re: The Charnwood Forest Light Railway
Hello All, Well, it's been a whole summer since my last update! I'd like to say a lot has been happening - but it hasn't, not on the CFLR at least. Despite good intentions I've not run a single train all summer. I was full of good intentions but you know how it is. On two occasions I've hacked back ...

Good old ST -you never fail to impress me. Those interiors are fantastic, the attention to detail is a real credit to you. I love the family picture over the fireplace. Whether the detail is easily visible or not, you know it's there and that's the important thing. Your railway is looking really goo...
