Re: Adjust wheel tread
Doesn't help but can't see without a lathe how you would get four consistent wheels. I am not a metalsmith though. What diameter are you aiming at? Is it something not available commercially?

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
I recall that whoever did it advocated a soak in water overnight before splitting. Have to say that lucky man on the video seemed to have more than one lifetime! I don't think I have that patience......

Re: REBIRTH OF FWLR
Unfortunately Derek, he has now gone back abroad with his cycling job until the end of September and then he plans on having a holiday with his family. But I can always ask…. :thumbleft: :thumbleft: Always tongue in cheek Rod, reckon I'll get by! Got a train fix yesterday as we trudged up a cloudy ...

Like the build and love how it has been blended in, really does look like the railway came later. Wasn't sure when you said past its best and missing a few teeth you were describing me, but then my name's not Stanley (it's Irwin Jack) I have had a block cut to size to go under a bridge...must get sc...

Re: Two Dogs Railway
Are your trees evergreens? You don't seem to be getting too much leaf fall. We've had an unusually hot, dry summer that has given rise to an early, persistent dropping of leaves by our wysteria. British farmers are renowned for always having the wrong weather, too wet, too dry etc Perhaps us garden ...

Re: Mamod traction engines
I always like a shop where the owner doesn't sell you things you think you need....i asked for a new piston assembly and he advised a few runs with steam oil first. I've got a feeling he was right.
Beautiful 5" gauge live steamer there.....if only....

Re: Mamod traction engines
https://youtu.be/M8NIXavyVe0 A 51 quid bid paid dividends last Sunday. The pressure valve was leaking but a trip to Forest Classics produced a valve, new drive belt and a washer for me bung hole for the princely sum of £13. Incidentally he should be holding Regner locos at some point. All this and ...

Be interesting to see whether it measures up to a Brunel size or steamer size. I'll stick to my traction engine although I quite like tram engines.

Starting to look good Jim, weathering is an art that I have yet to master. It is surprising the effects you get by wiping and washing off weathering.

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway
Really think I need to do this, I'm sure it must speed up operations if you don't have to spend an hour moving all the loose ballast from points and inside the track. I do like my moss and wonder whether sir would be a barrier to it growing back?

Re: Vale of Fairway
A touch of rain and a peeky wife gave me time to brandish the razor saws. Always felt the "doorways" were a little narrow and I would like to add roof supports in the entrance and midway along the body (inside). Some .8mm basswood is on order to replank the outside. I may need some outside...

Re: Semi-scale BR: an arched girder bridge
That is a mighty fine bridge and I also think the screwheads aren't that obvious. It is easy to be self-critical, if they really upset you slap some filler over them as previously suggested.

Glad to hear you're never say die. When I have to rebuild bits there are often things I would do different. Catch 22 garden railways, wood should be relatively simple to remove if moving house but my breeze block track base  I have gone into the wooden building thing knowing they won't last f...
