What else would be on a country station platform, other than a ticket office with waiting room and a signal box? I know..... a Gents urinal of course! ./myff/2003321/IMG_3863.JPG This is how it fits into the space available.... ./myff/2003322/IMG_3864.JPG Inside it has three stalls with dividers and...

Go on..... use Plastikard now you have started.. You can scribe the plastic to look like woodgrain and paint it with acrylics. Much easier than working with metal I think.

I recall we had a 'Happy' Anderton (Deputy Head) who had a face like a Bulldog and never smiled.

Hi Bazzer, I have compared the e-bay book price against others and it seems to be the best deal available at the moment. £10.68 (free post) is a very good offer. The book is a great starting point for a collection to begin once you have been bitten!

I think the Searle books were "Down wiv school" etc they were dated even when I was at old fashioned grammar school doing latin but still struck a chord. Good 'old fashioned Grammar School'..... I remember the 'Masters' in their caps and gowns always wielding canes (which I experienced re...

Meanwhile.... back to the signal box construction, today I managed to fit the ridge tiles and stove chimney.... ./myff/2003166/IMG_3850.JPG ./myff/2003167/IMG_3853.JPG The interior is less important as it will be sited several yards (metres!) away from a viewing area, however, I think levers would b...

Not wishing to reopen the Emett thread but, if a friend of mine was thinking of buying a book to look at the drawings. My friend always liked the Ronald Searle type of thing and likes the historic quirkiness of it, what would you recommend? I have Mother in Law's Festival of Britain guide but no me...

That's a good, chunky timber construction Jim, given a good coat of varnish it should last you a while.

Today's efforts on my signal box have been to construct the steps, handrail, fuel storage (for stove) underneath the steps and to make a base with timber planking at the front of the box and stone slabs at the sides..... ./myff/2002615/IMG_3836.JPG Also the guttering and downpipe exactly as I did on...

I recall watching a Rowland Emett style layout at the Warley model railway exhibition many years ago. It was a breath of fresh air and incredibly well modelled. It was popular and all those who saw it seemed to have a smile on their face. I certainly enjoyed it. Ian I'm glad you enjoyed the Emett l...

This is just for you Philip... Rowland Emett OBE, (awarded in 1978 for Services to Art and Science) was better known in the mid 20th Century when his work was frequently seen as advertising and promotional material. He was possibly the first to make humorous model railways based on his own cartoons....

That has turned out to be a lovely line, well thought out and executed. Everything looks just right and the planting has established well too.
Congratulations on a job well done.

More detailing on the station building today..... I have found a way to make downpipe..... just as I made fuel pipeline a while ago. Galvanised wire inside a plastic tube, allowing just enough flex to put the 'S' shape under the gutter. Slightly larger diameter pipe and screw-eyes make convincing su...

Rained all day here so you had a better opportunity to move on, and you have certainly done so, this is really taking shape now.
It is so satisfying to see what you have achieved so far, you must be well pleased with the result.

People either love the quirkiness of the Emetts and want to talk about the man and his work, or they don't understand what they represent and walk on by! Today I was impressed by some who had experience and knowledge of his Festival Railway (Far Tottering) from 1951, although they are few in number ...

Work on my new station building began this morning, spurred on by a surprise and very fast delivery of embossed stone effect plastic sheet from those extremely helpful people at Glendale Junction. I ordered this on Thursday afternoon and it came today..... wow!!! Having consulted my collection of SM...
