Re: Boiler Certificates part 2

I've not seen the article Tim, so can I ask what is suggested?
Rather than paraphrase, I will quote directly from the article. I am at work, its friday, monday is Queens birthday weekend ( go figure - we love the monarchy they give us holidays) so a reply will be a little time.

Re: Boiler Certificates part 2

Graeme, could you give us a precis of what was written, please? A feature of coal-fired boilers is that once they run dry there is no steam to provide a forced draught from exhaust or blower and the fire will then die fairly quickly, and certainly before paintwork or radio control damage could occu...

The policeman is marked as 150mm high. Based on 45mm=2ft, that makes him 6.7foot tall in 7/8ths.

Not really background material, but perhaps if you squint?

Really interesting thread Tony.

We take so much at face value when purchasing from commercial suppliers, although to be fair to Mamod, you did mention at the start some of the original parts came from aftermarket suppliers?

Hi Tony, As someone who has never owned an oscillating engine, so I make no pretence of knowledge, is it possible that the 'steam ports are not in line with the cylinder bore' in an attempt to get some lead on the steam admission / exhaust in the forward direction?. Looking forward to this post and ...

Any chance some A class wagons will follow across the Tasman Sea? Zero chance of anything crossing the Tasman Sea. A Bass Strait crossing maybe, If it is the photo of AA13 at Zeehan, I have a copy of that. Regards, Graeme Message to self. Think twice before posting after drinking red wine. Photo is...

Hi Graeme, Nice work, not sure why but models of prototypes always seem to be more convincing than freelance. That being said, a freelance loco is just as much fun to own & run. Any chance some A class wagons will follow across the Tasman Sea? I have a nice drawing I can send you, I cant post it...

Brilliant detailing, just another 20 or so would make a most convincing train! Perhaps not so convincing as the VR only ever owned 15 cattle wagons, spread over 4 disconnected lines!  One (wagon) still remains in useable condition. When these lines were built, Australias total population was only 2...

Thanks modelenthusiasts,

So the frames remain the same distance apart, only the wheels and cylinders move out in the conversion?

Hi Modelenthusiasts,

On the basis that there are no dumb questions, can I ask why there is a need for the part "gauge 1 conversion block". Logically the relationship between the wheels and the cylinders has not changed?

Chinese post

I don't know about Sri Lanka, but my understanding is the Chinese govt, postal agency gives free post to Chinese exporters. Makes sense since it promotes exports and western world post offices incur the cost of delivery in their country. Postage is a reciprocal agreement, but nobody sends parcels to...

Hi CNC,
Well done.
Is the superstructure from plasticard, or have you managed to achieve that level of finish on a wood surface?

If there is any stray glue from gluing on the hinges the stain won't take over those spots.

[ Would fitting cross tubes into the fire tube make any measurable difference (I head that Cheddar did something along those lines on it's locos)? Matt one odd thing I did notice was that the temperature of the fire tube dropped when the gas flow rate was increased, and increased when the flow rate was cut. Intuitively (from a non engineer) at a certain point of gas flow, the faster the gas flows through the fire tube, the less is combusted an...
