Re: Rail Car for Dirranbandi and Toowoomba Light Railway

Outstanding,
I am off to raid my son and heir's Lego box.

I was aware of the fine tolerances of Lego after I watched a program about it. Apparently, it has to be very accurate or it won't work. The knock off or copied versions are not nearly so well made.

It might be worth taking the approach that was used in the distant days when I was an archaeologist. When confronted with a building with a date carved in stone above the door. The only assumption you can make is that some one, at some point carved 4 random numbers on a piece of stone and stuck it ...

Re: Larger scale Stuff

The piston packing was a nice bit of possibly asbestos string 35 years ago. It was by this point past it's best.

The worshop belongs to the co owner of the engine.

Larger scale Stuff

As most of you are aware I have been a bit quiet on the forum recently. Partly it has been a case of real life getting in the way, coupled with an inability to get into the shed due to a garden that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Somme. (I am not joking, we are just along from the grav...

I am certain that someone more knowledge than me will turn up soon.
I have heard that the numbering was somewhat random and may not reflect what actually went out of the door. Both Merlins that I have owned had worksplates that were devoid of numbers.

The rivetting definitely looks home made with a centre punch or similar. Not sure about the chassis, though. That valve gear reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on exactly what, I'm afraid. Funny you should say that, it does look a little Basset Lowke mogulish to me as do the cylinders.

It looks a nice, hefty engine.
I can't think of any kits for this engine, I would think it is scratch built.

Post Length

My thought is that they need to be at least 18 inches longer than the fence panel is tall. Unless you are using MetPosts (other metal devices for banging into the ground are available).

Superb job, does he:-
1) have a dragon in his smokebox?
2) make the right noise?
3) sing in the local choir?

The chassis and wheels look much better than 'as supplied' you should contact the kit manufacture and offer to sell him some.

Sorry to hear of your issues, but I am glad plans are afoot for a new line. I wonder if His Lordship had ever come across the Hon. Titus A. Duxsarrse of PMR fame? The assorted Dais are currently unemployed due to the PMR's moth balled status. Let me know if you want me to send them up north in the p...

Absolutely brilliant. Ever thought of going into production with them? Pretty sure there would be a market for them, not least of all with myself standing in the queue   I imagine most people view smoke generators in diesels as unrealistic as a well running engine doesn't smoke so...
