Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

As others have said Peter, fantastic modelling. The photography is good too.

It is! And not only is it full of sources of modelling inspiration, but they also share your admiration for the wonders of SBR so much they have dedicated many items of rolling stock to it :thumbleft

Re: Loading hoppers for the sand quarry

That looks good Rik. I must get back to my modelling and in particular using foam board. I have a couple of buildings under construction that I've put away. FWIW I use the cheap superglue for foam board. I get the cheapest I can find from Range.

Re: Larger scale Stuff

Steel boilers seem to be the thing now in larger scales... Yes, probably due to the cost of copper boilers. Steel boilers require more maintenance AFAIK. Not sure about steel boilers, but steel fireboxes are cheaper than copper fireboxes. I think, AFAIK, it is only in our small scales where copper ...

Re: Sand hopper

Wow..... That's very nice of you all, thanks folks. I have to admit, I hadn't intended simulating weathered wood - I was just weathering the grey painted wagons. A moral in there somewhere. This is the sort of standard I would love to reach, one day, in my imaginary future........ a bit of a journe...

It's a good start. I was thinking of using blocks for the permanent way, but by using similar method to you I may get something running much quicker.

Re: Ballasting track

Personal experience of using SBR and a variety of ballast materials has given me an insight into what works and what is less likely to. My own first attempt was to use horticultural grit, which I took a long time to sieve out the larger lumps and only use the smaller. I quite liked the appearance o...

Re: Disasters, Out-takes, Accidents, Fails etc.

No pictures, but my Lady Anne has had a badly bent buffer beam when it derailed and hit a very substantial bridge support. It also suffered a dent, since removed in the tank side when it fell from an elevated section of a friend's railway.
