Re: Resin question

Almost exactly 3 months to the day since I first opened it. It has subsequently been used about half a dozen times, but of course that also means half a dozen lots of 'used' resin being returned to the bottle. In my own mind I strongly suspect that that is the problem. I'm guessing from your respon...

Anyway, I would assume that if there is any tendancy for it to settle, the thicker stuff would be at the bottom so I'd expect it to be initially thinner when pouring?
Twas just my initial thought. How long have you had the resin open?

Only one thought and I am sure you do, but do you shake vigorously before using your resin?

Re: And now for something else

I did say a couple of pictures today and here they are. Once painted you will just never know it's been papered, well if I can do as well as my friend does. Lol. Any blemishes you see in the pictures will soon sand out but a lot easier than trying to get rid of print striations. IMG_20210306_085538....

Re: And now for something else

Main chassis has now been printed and papered, yes papered. A good friend of mine papers all his 3d models before he paints them and credit due, they don't look like 3d printed models as the finish is perfect. He showed me how best to do this and I had a go on the main chassis today (whilst chasing ...

Bit of an update on this. This is the final CAD work done and it has already started to be printed. As and when I get the time I shall build it and post up some pictures.

Driver and Fireman with shovel

These are the figures I created for my model of Welsh Pony. For 16mm scale the driver should be about 85mm tall, and the fireman about 72mm tall, smaller to take account of the crouching position. The shovel is separate. They will print on a filament printer but obviously will be better printed on ...

Re: Can you tell what it is yet?

I see what you mean about the rivets. Perhaps I over emphasise the rivets. Scaling effects are interesting. I think some things have to be over scale to have the expected impact. I make my rivets 1mm diameter and 1mm high - just laziness really. Trevor Not that I am a rivet counter, but there are a...

It did indeed have bits missing and still does, lots and lots to design yet, but getting there, I will start the first test prints next week hopefully.

Re: Festiniog Railway Welsh Pony - 3 D printed

I think natural drying on sunlight (when we get it) might improve this vastly as I have had other things go a little funny under UV that didn't in the sun. UV lights also make the resin change colour, again, the sun generally doesn't have such an effect on the resin.

Re: Weak Bachmann Lyn motor

Shame you don't have 32mm track as I am doing a FR Single Fairlie Taliesin next on my list, maybe you could just make a bogie to 45mm from my 32mm one, after all, it's only the width that would change? More room for stuff, lol. Failing that, just make up your own complete drive unit from scratch, I ...

Re: Festiniog Railway Welsh Pony - 3 D printed

Trevor, that looks freaking amazing, I hope you are very proud of yourself. As far as name plates go, it looks like your plates are lifting at each end the same as mine do. I am going to thicken up the base to try and avoid this but I am not sure if it's getting them off the build plate th...

Re: Can you tell what it is yet?

It looks fantastic - and it gets better at each stage. Just out of curiosity which double Fairlie are you building - or is it generic? Trevor It is just generic, no particular one really, I might give it some name plates to make it look like one, possibly Merddin Emryss as that's the one I have bee...

Re: Can you tell what it is yet?

It is definitely starting to take shape as a 3D image, the downside being is it will take well over a week of constant printing to complete, in reality, 2 weeks due to not baby sitting it 24 hours a day, WOW! I still have a few minor tweaks to do, but as they say, we're getting there. :thumbleft: An...

Re: Can you tell what it is yet?

Yes, I definitely used keyboard shortcuts in the first half, I thought that would be the easy bit, so I sort of glossed over how to get the two intersecting cylinders. You could do that any number of ways, in the example I used two sketches and extruded but you could have used the cylinder tool ins...
