Re: Ringbalin Light Railway

I made the decision to dismantle the HO division of the Ringbalin Light Railway as I had not touched it since Jan 2021. This blog post explains more. https://ringbalin.blogspot.com/p/lat.html With the demise of the HO a real estate grab is in the making which will involve moving my work nook into th...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Maybe you could just take screenshots of each page? Might be easier, if your computer can take screenshots. I can download 2 pages at a time using pdf its a bit of a pain when an article covers 3 pages but I should be able to re compile the mag that way. Just wanted a pdf version of the whole thing...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

Rik, Garden Rail reappeared on Exact Editions a while back, complete with the back issue archive going back to 2006. Costs a bit more for an Exact Editions online subscription than for the Pocket Mags version. Depends on what you think access to 200+ back issues is worth to you....... GAP, if you p...

Re: Garden Rail Magazine

No, I think they restrict the number of pages you can print at any one time to deter people from downloading. A shame really. One of the reasons I opted for the original electronic subscription was that it gave access to all the past editions but when they transferred over to Pocket Mags from Exact...

Garden Rail Magazine

Question without notice please give answers with some thought. I recently subscribed to "Garden Rail" magazine (I now have Dec 23 and Jan 24 editions) and I am wondering how I could possibly download and store them on a hard drive thus creating a library for perusal into the future. Is thi...

I've been meaning for quite some time, to start a general sugar mill rollingstock thread, akin to Andrew's wonderful (WH)WHR Rolling Stock . Plan is to cover various wagonry development here in future. Locos will retain their own threads. 12/11/2019 A favourite prototype of mine is thought to be th...

Re: Capacitor for motor RF suppression?

I'm re-powering an Accucraft Baguley chassis using the battery pack and manual controls, leftover from my Essel Fowler rebuild. Upon removing the original wiring from the Fowler, I noticed the ceramic capacitor soldered across the motor terminals, to suppress electrical noise from the motor. Figure...

And a rotary plow too? I am in complete and utter disbelief.
The snowplough looks "cool"; I have no need for one as I only get that white stuff in my freezer.

Re: Marc Horovitz is Wrong. (IMO)

Should we continue this thread or start a new one under Off-Topic? As far as I can tell it's on topic or close enough, but maybe we could change the name to "In search of the ugliest train" or something more generic like that? I don't know who Marc Horovitz is and don't want to wish him i...

Re: Servo attachment

in the bottom metal box in a ragleth for the throttle. It has one where there but whatever glue has failed as has the servo. I'm waiting for a new micro servo to replace it. I found for that purpose use a "wing" servo and drill 2 holes and screw it in. Far easier to fit and replace. There...

To keep the water in the boiler level or covering the firebox.

Welcome back. After my open heart surgery I found that a morning peruse of the forum to see what others are up to was therapeutic. Take its easy and work your way back slowly. I know all about a wife keeping an eye on me 18 months and counting under supervision, I jokingly refer to her as the handbr...

Re: Marc Horovitz is Wrong. (IMO)

I have always been amused by the term "prototypical" used in US magazines (model railroader & garden rails, Marc Horovitz editor)to describe full sized railways which people base their railways on. Prototype is defined as "a first or preliminary version of a device or vehicle from...

As the project is inside PLA should do the job hopefully, the next thing to do is place all sets in the shed where they are going to be used and expose them to the heat over the summer months. Outside temps will reach into the 30'sC for the next few months, I suppose I should get a cheap thermomete...

Greg, Have you given consideration to a rolling weight eg ball bearing or round lead sinker too apply pressure to the "brake" mechanism. Going down hill the weight rolls forward and applies the brake and going up hill rolls off the brake. Maybe 2 mounted in opposite directions so that orie...
