Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I store my rolling stock in wooden trays with the compartments lined with felt, similar to your boxes. To stop things rattling around when being transported in the car, I make spacers out of wood or ply and pad them with felt. Graeme I have used this method for over 30 years for my OO stock without...

I haven't double headed single handedly, but have double headed my Lady Anne with another Lady Anne seen at 9:26 into the following video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhWGIasy_dQ Is double heading with Deltang equipment easier? With my current R/C sets I don't have enough hands to double head on...

Re: Changing of a Roundhouse Silver Lady - Steamy Clare

Hi Joe, I wouldn't recommend doing what I did as it isn't perfect and tends to spit water out when steaming up. There are now suppliers who sell water top up plugs that will allow you to fit a Lady Anne dome: https://www.thetraindepartment.com/roundhouse/roundhouse-parts/ Anyone know of a UK suppli...

I just noticed the reverser. I hadn't been able to see a Quarry Hunslet reverser before. It looks like a screw type. I wonder why
The reverser looks to be on a quadrant in the pictures I can see. Perhaps PH or others familiar with the Quarry Hunslets can clarify?

Re: Run time

In my experience run time will vary according to a number of factors. Ambient temperature, whether or not warm or hot water is used to raise steam. How high or low the gas is turned up (for gas fired locos - obviously) and the load. I only worry about running out of water before gas. I always try to...

Re: Accucraft Baguley Drewery 2018

Dealing with Accucraft directly now as it out of dealers hands, convenient for them. Let's hope the replacements they send are of better quality than the originals supplied. Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 it is the retailers responsibility to sort the matter out. The retailer must repair or repla...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Eeek! Although I'm guessing that was a problem with the paint going soft, rather than the bubblewrap itself - if the paint softens I guess anything an item of rolling stock's wrapped in will leave a mark... Thanks for the info - more thought for thought... I may investigate cyrogenic technology for...

Re: eBay madness

Interesting thoughts. I'm reminded of Tag Gorton's article in this month's Garden Rail, where he advocates making your name-plates easily removable, otherwise unless someone is specifically looking for a loco named "Mavis" then you may expect it will reduce the resale value to have them p...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

I'd be a wary of using old foamed rubber. No idea what type of foam is used for bedroll, but like Philip I've had problems over the years with the common polyurethane foam, which can break down and damage models. The foam can etch into both paint and plastic as it disintegrates. I store my wagons w...

I am pleased with their appearance.... it's all about distance. Brilliant solution. I fit vacuum pipes to all my locomotives and passenger stock....... A small point for anyone making them, the hoses should be fastened to the stand when not connected up. If they aren't then no vacuum can be created...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Brilliant solution. I fit vacuum pipes to all my locomotives and passenger stock. Until the 1970s even British Rail ran unfitted wagons. They only had a hand brake. A small point for anyone making them, the hoses should be fastened to the stand when not connected up. If they aren't then no vacuum ca...

Re: Tamiya masking tape

You certainly don't need the dispenser to use the tape - and I don't dispense my tape from the dispenser. I do store the tape in the dispenser though as it keeps the edges in good condition. I agree. With masking the edges are important and that's the reason I too keep all my Tamiya tape in the dis...

Re: Loco/tender attachment

I am not sure about narrow gauge locos, but on standard gauge tender locos besides the drawbar there would be buffers, water hoses for both injectors, a vacuum hose (or air pipe) and if fitted, a steam heating hose. Hope that helps.

Re: Roundhouse Lady Anne Regner whistle fitting

As I am concerned about damaging RC gear with the moisture being blown about inside the loco I have changed the plumbing so it fits under the cab footplate. I've wondered whether fitting the whistle underneath the boiler toward the front might improve things, but I've not tried it. Mounted up there...
