Re: "Calloway", a Roundhouse Bundaberg Fowler Rebuild

Hi Aaron, Don't know if this is any help or what type of under cab injectors you need, but these are what I made to represent those on the NA's of Puffing Billy. Simple soldering job with various bits of K&S tube and brass turnings with hex's ground on. You could of course use brass nuts. Puffi...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

Looks like a good sheltered spot. Is that the hiss of steam or rain I can hear in the background? Rik Definitely rain! Two of our club members were generous enough to allow the portable layout to be setup in their barn over the Summer, since covid meant the usual events were cancelled. While this S...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

Been a while since I shared an update on here. This afternoon I found myself with the club portable layout all to myself. It would have been rude not to take advantage! https://youtu.be/ALkUoeWkkO0 Dylan still runs a bit stiff, but it gets better every time I run it. Lady Anne is running a bit fast ...

Re: Deltang rx-65 question

Think I'm all sorted. Wasn't that hard at all. Once I swapped the wires in the transmitter the Rx65 'just worked' as expected. Then, to reset the steam loco, I first made sure the regulator was fully closed, removed the throttle servo horn, and powered up both transmitter and Rx102 (with the right s...

Re: Deltang rx-65 question

Thanks Rik. No, I can't point any fingers any direction other than my own since this is a Tx22 I built from one of David's kits a while back. After I went to bed last night I was slowly coming to the realisation that I must have connected the throttle pot wires incorrectly & just configured my r...

Re: Deltang rx-65 question

A bit more reading shows that the receiver in my live steam loco is an Rx102, on which one CAN change the servo end points & direction. So I suppose I could reverse the wires on the throttle knob in the transmitter, then reconfigure the receiver in the live steam loco. Seems a lot of work though...

Deltang rx-65 question

Posting as a new thread rather than muddy the rx102 thread, but feel free to relocate if more appropriate.... I am in the process of setting up an rx-65 receiver/ESC module with my TX-22 transmitter. I already have my tx-22 bound & setup with my live steam loco (I forget which receiver, but what...

Re: Running roundhouse engines on MSS track

Many Roundhouse locos will foul the levers on Mamod points with the wider buffer beams in my experience. Can be solved by modifying the point levers, and obviously not an issue if you don't have Mamod points.

Re: Early Roundhouse spirit fired locos

Some great input here. Cheers chaps. Re:C02, this is a great suggestion. Especially as I tend to keep a couple of the 32g canisters on hand to carry with me whilst mountain biking. Tony, I had wondered if something was expanding and causing the discrepancy in running on air vs. under steam, but my m...

Re: Early Roundhouse spirit fired locos

A bit more detail having just done a test run on blocks.... Pressure is raised in 5 minutes (seems reasonable. Comparable to my butane Lady Anne, although we're currently in the middle of a 40 degree heat wave...) I then get 5 minutes of excellent running, before pressure drops to less than 20psi &a...

Early Roundhouse spirit fired locos

All, Those following my general thread will have seen my efforts to build up a very early spirit fired Roundhouse Dylan: https://gardenrails.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=10959&hilit=Squamish&start=90#p158819 I've given it a couple of runs now, & learned the cheap, generic lamp wick mater...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

Finally got the gauge connection repaired with silver solder: IMG-20210321-WA0001-1.jpg Passed the steam test with no concerns: IMG_20210321_173545-1.jpg It still runs smoothly on air, with one slightly sticky point where, if it stops, it can require slightly > 10psi to get back going again. However...

Re: Servo Controlled Points

I think the other thing being missed here is that a servo tries it's hardest to reach a position told to it by the receiver. One wants the point blade to be held against the rail with some amount of force, which means that, without any 'give' in the system, the point blade is actually preventing th...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

Must agree, it looks great. That livery really compliments the simple elegance of the loco. Absolutely! Am I spotting a Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway influence? Sure! Let's go with that! In truth, it was based on the early Penrhyn livery, with the admission that I wasn't going to try doing the d...

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

OK, brace yourselves for the next saga in the roller-coaster ride that is my Dylan build... Over the last couple of weeks, the chassis has been disassembled, rebuilt and steam-tested several times trying to work some of the stiffness out of it. Each time the paintwork was touched up to keep it tidy....

Re: The Reading and Squamish Light Railway Stock Thread

Another minor update. New cylinder gaskets cut from a non-glossy Christmas card. I wonder how my friends and family would take a request that all future cards be on non-glossy paper to allow for easier 'recycling?!' IMG_20210131_151452-1.jpg Having disassembled and realigned everything several times...
