Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway
My guess is that they indicate a position where there is a change in gradient on the track.... Yes, that's it. There's more detail here: http://www.railsigns.uk/sect24page1/sect24page1.html, but in brief: "Gradient posts are placed, facing the track, at each location where the gradient of the ...

Looking forward to it!
Great trestle, and a very spacious yard too which should make for great operations...
Cheers,
Andrew.

Re: The Cobtree Line
We are all guilty of over-engineering at some point I am sure... I've got a friend who's a civil engineer, and I think I recall him telling me that a lot of Victorian civil engineering was built to last about 1,000 years when assessed by modern standards, wheras these days they reckon on 100... Any...

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway
Very nice... If you fancied it you could knock up another "sign" for the other side - it'd be facing the wall, so could just be a blank rectangle of metal or plastic... You've reminded me that I need to erect signs at my upper terminus's foot crossing, but I think it'll be a while before I...

A bit of rail would be the thing...tom_tom_go wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 9:23 pm Thanks Andrew, I won a few bits on a job lot and these signs were part of it but I think the posts are a bit overscale so may change them.
Oops, still supposed to be packing...

Hi Tom, Must be quick, should be packing to go to a wedding tomorrow, but your sign looks about right - just before people cross the track. There are lots of pictures online. I think "Trains cross here" would be displayed like a road sign at an ungated road crossing - the forerunner of mod...

Re: Vale of Fairway
Thank you, that's a very kind offer. I had a look at the Melody Jane website though, and the image shows it with a 10 pence piece, and i think it will be a little too large. I think I'll probably go with Tenmille asbestos sheet - that's intended for Gauge One and I think scales about right for 16mm ...

Re: Vale of Fairway
I like the old Nantmor station. I had a similar one by Wills on a OO gauge layout. A similar one may appear on my railway when it gets built. Are there any drawings for it or plans? Ian Well, there's this one, which I drew at lunchtime yesterday! Plan.jpg Just a doodle really, to see whether it wou...

Gut feeling tells me some nail art rivets along the roof would add some interest. Always! Probably more to scale for 7/8ths too... Despite not having done a huge amount of modelling of late I'm about to start my second box of nail art gems - I can't have used over 1,000 already, can I?! The buildin...

I would be interested to see how you run a session using this setup, video available? It might also be interesting to see a juggling performance involving two loco transmitters and a video camera! My end-to-end line used shunt release at the lower terminus for a while, although I decided to add a f...

Re: Vale of Fairway
show’s that you don’t need to make a model in 4 days. Absolutely! I'm full of admiration for those that do, but equally inspired by those who manage to maintain momentum for a project over a long period - I tend to snatch my modelling time from the rest of the day in hour long chunks and often only...

Great little railway! I'm really taken with the way the station sits on the edge of the patio too, just right... Re ballasting, you could consider a "Rowlands Mix" of some sort - that's kind of semi permanent, but looks pretty good, aids smooth running, is easy to do, and it's not difficul...

That's looking really good - only a small space, but you've managed to get in a lot of interest without it looking cramped. Like the extension plans too...

Thanks or the advice! I'll contact RH and see what they say. And i'll definitely have to rtry to get down to Kent Tom, thank you. Getting Russell Right
Hello all, As you may have seen on my railway thread, last night I steamed my RH Russell, which confirmed some issues I've known about for a while. I had thought I might send it away to one of the professional engine-fixers for attention, but I'm a little short of hobby cash at the moment so would l...

Re: The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland Railway
Afternoon all, Like Tom, I was tempted out into the garden with some trains on the longest day. The sun's disappeared over the house by the afternoon, but other than that everything was just right for a steam up. The wagons that didn't get to go anywhere at the weekend were retrieved from the shelf ...

I really like your little railway Daan, you've achieved so much in a small space. Nicely filmed too - but the shots of the trains going over the bridges terrify me! Has anything ever fallen in?!

Sorry, Andrew et al, a bit of thread drift here........ That's not thread-drift Rik - for large parts of the time the (WH)WHR exists as a kind of thought experiment anyway, either because I'm not at home, or because i'm doing other things. 99% of the services that operate over the line do so only i...
