Re: First time scratchbuild project - Bagnall steam loco

And so you should feel very chuffed with it! It looks great! Very reminiscent of the original Bagnalls which were quite unique.

Re: A different 3D printed diesel

Hi Philip
This review rates Meshmixer highly for auto fixing meshes. I've not used it yet for that purpose, but the explanation on here might be useful.

Re: Car railcar

BTW I've discovered that the donor vehicle is from the Sylvanian Families range. It's called the Vintage Wedding Car. s-l400.jpg . I've also noticed they do a very interesting version of the Morris Minor, which could easily be adapted to look like the real thing, sitting in a station car park. Not m...

Re: A different 3D printed diesel

Sorry, Philip. I didn't mean to sound critical in my previous post. I think you've done a great job - as I said the pose is really good (which is the bit you were responsible for) - but it does seem that 3D printers just aren't that good at handling finer detail like faces. Mind you, I've had a go a...

Re: The Development of the WLR

I'm just trying to figure out how it could be wired up, but I think you might be able to use one of these, with a couple of diodes and a couple of normally on micro switches.

Re: A different 3D printed diesel

The pose is good. I think it's difficult to get fine detail on a 3d print, so hands and faces do seem to end up a bit Mr Blobbyish. Not that I've tried it yet, but the 3d figures I've bought do lack finesse

Re: The Development of the WLR

I really enjoy seeing the latest developments. That plane and it's mechanism are a delight. I was expecting the bucket to move on the last video, though. I suspect it will only be a matter of time......

Will the plane be fully automated eventually? I suspect a shuttle module would do the trick.

Re: Car railcar

Hi Jim It's a CTC DIY A8, a very cheap version of the Anet A8. It came as a kit, the construction of which I've described here - https://riksrailway.blogspot.com/2020/06/how-i-assembled-my-ctc-diy-anet-a8.html I got mine for £80 on eBay. The price seems to vary. On the CTC website it's shown as $140...

Another marvellous little scene. It's the little touches which bring thing to life.
Have you installed a smoke generator in the chimney?

Re: A different 3D printed diesel

A brilliant job, Philip. The larger size does make it look a lot more workmanlike. Your printer gives a far better finish than mine. I haven't tried, but I suspect it would struggle to print a figure successfully. Did you need to give supports for the arms?

This one has been on the shelf for a couple of years while I tried to decide how to tackle it. Once I laid hands on the razor saw, it was remarkable how quickly it came together though - probably around three days of intermittent work.

......, I like it that you altered their arms to hold on to their hats! Thanks Grant I felt this would probably be the most natural pose. The hands were the most difficult to model in milliput. The chap's hand holding the wheel is more like a flipper. Maybe he's a keen swimmer🤭 Many of our road to ...

Re: Car railcar

.... is it usually the case that steering wheels remained after conversion to rail use? Not sure, but I decided that the steering wheel would have a hand throttle at its centre and so they kept the wheel as something to hold on to, rather than just having the column with a lever on it. It is actual...

Car railcar

Another project which has been sitting on the shelf for a while has now emerged from the workshop - a car railcar S1760001.JPG . Not sure where the donor body came from for the car. But it seems to look OK S1760002.JPG . The passengers are those cheap figures which come from China - butchered a bit....
