Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway

Ironic isn't it, just when I thought it was only me that had any interest in my line you all pour out support all in one go! I refer the right honourable gentleman to several earlier outpourings! Andrew, the railway will remain until you either pick up your loco or I test the Slomo out on your Russ...

Me too! And I'm second in line for Simon's loco...

The railway's looking great Julie, glad it's working out so well...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Andrew, up until now the drainage system has seen no rain as I have had the entire area covered while the cement, then the SBR had time to dry out. As you can see from the above pictures, it is now exposed but so far, strangely, no rain! Keep us posted - I'm intrigued to see how it will all work...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

You might have noticed, I love to see a variety of buildings on garden railways and enjoy reading about construction materials. This will look good and cope with the weather conditions I'm sure. The Jackson's windows are used in most of my structures too and are fine. Also available are a selection...

Re: (WH)WHR Buildings

Looking good so far Andrew. Interesting technique with the dovetail joints at the corners. I've not seen that done before, I just butt them up and put reinforcing fillets inside. I think "dovetail joints" may be a little grand for this hacked-together construction! Slot and tab? Anyway, b...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

Congratulations, that looks fantastic, all the careful planning really payed off! The scene looking down towards the level crossing is particularly realistic...

Have you had any rain recently, to test your drainage system?

Cheers,

Andrew

(WH)WHR Buildings

Morning all! The (Windmill Hill) Welsh Highland currently has very few buildings - a station building recycled from my old line at Trefechan, a resin corrugated hut at Clarach, and a grounded coach body at Penlan. I thought it was about time that changed, so have started knocking together a station ...

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway

Hello, Just back from a few days away to find closure notices posted on one of my favourite lines! I'm really sorry to hear your news and, like the others, really hope this isn't the end - perchance it is not dead but sleepeth? I know from my own garden railway-ing experience the impact of major set...

That's really looking very good - the paint wash has made the stone walling look very convincing...

I've taken a note of Stixall as well, sounds just the thing...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

Hello! That's looking great, with a real sense of identity, thanks for the photos. I started in the garden at about the same age, although things paused for a while at about the age you are now when I found myself the father of twins. Somehow used it as a good excuse to buy a RH Bertie though... Any...

Re: Time to build a railway...but where?

I have always had the philosophy of doing the worst or hardest jobs first and not leaving 'till last, after that everything seems easier. A good idea I reckon, and one I've been thinking about - I've vowed to myself to start with the droplights next time I build a carriage... That said, it's not al...

Re: RWLR - Robin Wood Light Railway

I picked up these tired coaches recently and I prefer the colour of them to my mint brake coach so I might try and replicate the colour or leave it outside as the previous owner of the newly acquired coaches did to achieve the faded look: Sorry, not much to add on the science of SBR, but those coac...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Glad you like it, I was pleased with the result... Peter, it's just Poundland primer (which comes out slightly darker than a usual grey primer finish), with certain slates (or the corrugations which represent them) picked out in lighter or darker shades using acrylic craft paint. The whole thing was...

Re: (WH)WHR Rolling Stock

Afternoon all! Following a conversation about wagon loads on the (WH)WHR thread on the layouts board, I spent this morning having a go at making a slate load for one of my new wagons. It uses 4mm (?) scale corrugated iron and plasticard "slates" over a foamboard shell - I think it looks OK...

Re: Manning Wardle "Yeo" and "Exe" new builds

I do wonder what will eventually happen to Axe and Issac when the 5 engines are recreated... Funny you should ask that - so do Steam Railway... L&B Chairman, Peter Miles, replies "Well, Axe is not really designed for a long, passenger-carrying railway. However, she may have a useful role t...

Re: Vintage tractor size?

Thanks again for all the thoughts and advice on this - when I've got a suitable spot for it I'll give it a coat of red paint as suggested and it can take its place on the railway. In the meantime it's gained a new (temporary!) driver... Monkey.jpg Rod, the tractor is a fraction over 6" long... ...
