I wouldn't worry about the plastic worm, I've got an IP Danny which is a similar size to the loco you have. It has run hundreds of real miles and shows no wear to the gears at all. I think the idea behind having a metal gear and plastic worm is when the gears do get worn, the plastic worm goes first...

If you have a look on the Roundhouse website all their colours are listed. If its not, send them a quick email and they will be able to tell you the RAL number. Pheonix paints stock the roundhouse touchup pots which will match, I'd add the link but they have updated their site and I'm having trouble...

Kerr Stuart Drawing
Does any one know if a drawing for the tiny Kerr Stuart locos from the Dundee gas works has appeared in print anywhere. The one from the narrow gauge museum has moved to Beamish and has got me thinking again.

Nice little loco you have there. Couple of tips if I may. Start on charcoal soaked in METHS not paraffin, the paraffin leaves an oily residue in the tubes making the soot stick. As for pipe connectors have a look for the quick release fittings used in pneumatics or 16mm scale water top up valves, th...

That would be mine, can't find the pictures of it right now but Brian took some about 2 days after it was finished here http://bgra.16mm.org.uk/gallery5.html There is also a video of it running here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-jm2eGQCgQ The valve gear is in theory better in one direction than ...

If the fire goes out slowly you may have an air leak in the smokebox. Make sure the area around the door is clean and that the steam/ exhaust pipes are sealed in. It might also be worth checking that there is a nozzle on the end of the blower pipe. Anthracite needs a good, red charcoal fire and a de...

That valve is known as a bypass valve. When open the water is just pumped round and doesn't enter the boiler. When the valve is closed the only place for the water to go is into the boiler. Adjusting the valve allows control of water into the boiler, the idea being you can set the valve to continual...

I've got a Russell from one of the first batches and I like it a lot. A water gauge cannot be fitted without serious boiler surgery or a new one all together. A top up valve is an easy fit though simply replacing the filler plug under the dome. The dome comes from Roundhouse, as fitted to the Lady A...
