Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

"...Trying out the Loctite holding process and so far so good..." Can you please explain? what are you holding with Loctite? Not quite sure I follow... btw - your filing skills whilst not surprising (after all you have plenty of practice in your daytime job) are very impressive :thumbright:

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

...May I ask why you decided to omit the springs? Number of reasons (in no particular order) - my personal preference is for equalisation rather than simple springing, but my original design (which looked OK on CAD screen :D ) turned out to be a bit too complicated... in real life - trying to limit...

Re: bambuko loco works 0-6-2 (Fowler)

I have finished axleboxes, fitted the bearings and made some dummy axles from mild steel (proper ones will be made from silver steel) just to try the fit etc. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48706561268_95a0a9e2f1_o.jpg Quite pleased with the result. It's been quite some time since the last update  but now that summer is gone and I am back in the workshop (at least occasionally), here is the latest: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48665446736_de88c3fd80_o.jpg I have decided not to spring the axleboxes, but left original hornblocks and ...

Hi, over 30 years I have built about 400 locos. and that's why your advice is so valuable! Thank you :thumbright: ... The only commercial models (40 off) that were sprung were Balwin 4-6-0 tank locos... Not a good project from the commercial side ... It sort of answers your question .. It sort of d...

Re: "Garden Rail" 1994 Ross Harrison's 16mm Hunslet (Lilla)

OK, I am beginning to understand... :thumbright: The original design intent was for the 14mm pin to be short of the top of axlebox openning in the frame, so that if an axlebox went all the way to the top of it's travel on the weak spring, it would bottom on on the frame, not on the pin. Makes sense ...

Re: "Garden Rail" 1994 Ross Harrison's 16mm Hunslet (Lilla)

Hi Tony, I remain confused by your descriptions of springing arrangement for Swanage Lilla. Perhaps it is because Swanage design differs from Ross Harrison's design? Re: "Garden Rail" 1994 Ross Harrison's 16mm Hunslet (Lilla)

Many thanks Tony :thumbright: I always thought that LBSC's idea of brazing frames to buffer beams made for much more rigid and stable loco, so I guess Ross's design (particularly when "poorly constructed") was likely to be flimsy... I guess you have improved matters by getting better axleb...

...That's more like watchmaking than modelling....... yeah :) It was just a feasibility study and I am beginning to think 7/8" version on 45mm track might be more interesting proposition. This would btw make it comparable to LBSC's Tich but on narrow gauge instead standard gauge :thumbright: ....
