Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

Thanks Guys, I’m really pleased with how both locos have turned out, but particularly the 2095. It took a lot of bravery to take an airbrush to it, I’ve never painted something that big before, and I’m not sure I ever want to again! Today was the first day I’ve been able to get out in the gard...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

The name plates for the diesels arrived from Narrow Planet yesterday, so of course they had to be fitted straight away! https://i.imgur.com/ECat7zR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/1oZ3GiH.jpg Which marks the completion of both projects! Huzzah! P.S. I noticed that LOTI’s nameplate was slightly wonky after t...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

Great sound on the Diesel Rob. Love number 3 too. Hopefully we will get a decent summer again this year. I need some good weather so the extension on the line can be finished. Thanks Rod, I’m really looking forward to getting out there! I’ll look forward to seeing your extension, Fingers crossed fo...

Re: Resurrecting a Bachmann Lyn

The black one runs like a dream. When it was track powered it would run perfectly on filthy track, long after my LGB locos has given up. It’s now RC which has made it even better. The only issue it has is adhesive weight, which I’m hoping I’ve sorted in time for this summer. The green one is much m...

Re: Resurrecting a Bachmann Lyn

Cracking job, love the way it's been restored, looks great  Thanks! It’s come out better than I expected it would actually. Very nice. How do they run? I've heard mixed stories about their smooth running. Rik Thanks Rik. The black one runs like a dream. When it was track powered it would r...

Re: Resurrecting a Bachmann Lyn

Very nice - love the red rods! What a bargain too! It'll look great double-heading with your other one... By the way, meant to say how much I liked your diesel repaints, wasn't online much at the time but was very impressed. Looking forward to photos ofyour fleet in action over the spring/summer......

Re: Resurrecting a Bachmann Lyn

This evening has seen the crank pin botch put into effect. A visit to my local DIY shop produced a bag of nails that were almost a perfect fit. These were cut down to an appropriate size, seen here next to one of the original pins; https://i.imgur.com/CGTiyOi.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jYzpl12.jpg A qu...

Resurrecting a Bachmann Lyn

Another day, another CWLR project! A couple of years ago, I needed a few bits for my new style Bachmann Lyn. Unfortunately Bachmann didn’t have all of the bits I needed (namely a chimney) and their postage from the US was extortionate. By chance, a listing appeared on eBay, containing all of the bit...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

I’ve had a play around this morning, and have managed to move No.3’s RC gear out of the tank and into the boiler. This has allowed me to put the weights back into the tank, and means it can now manage two Swift 16 bogie vans on its own with only a small amount of slip (on wet rails!). I’m quite happ...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

If they haven't done what you asked why did you accept the work? What R/C setup is in the loco as moving to a different system may reduce size of components and battery size. I didn’t realise what had been done for a couple of weeks afterwards. Besides, It’s liveable with, just a little light on it...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

The last few days has seen a bit of work done to make sure No.3 is ready for the Summer. The loco has been given a bit of a clean, and has had its buffer beams and Vac pipes painted Red, a job I’ve been plucking up courage to do since I bought it! It could probably do with another coat of red, parti...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

I admit I am fussy with sound cards coming from DCC sound stuff to R/C sound. So am I normally. For me the R-CAT system makes this one very much worthwhile, I hate seeing locos cruising with the engine going like the clappers. The bonus is I’m very happy with how it actually sounds. My (very) limit...

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

The horn does sound good but the engine sounds synthesised to me? What Brian Jones sound card have you used? Loco looks great! It’s his ‘Ffestiniog Funkey’ sound set. Listening to it, it’s definitely a recording, however the engine sounds and horn sounds are definitely from Caernarfon Castle (the W...

ge_rik wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2019 10:39 pm That sounds very good. Not only the engine sounds, but also the horn is very respectable. I find it's often the horn or whistle that lets sound cards down

Rik
Thanks Rik. I’m really pleased with how it sounds.
I agree about horns and whistles. They often sound too synthesised!

Re: The Charlwood Light Railway (CWLR)

The RC gear for No. 9 arrived this morning. I’ve spent most of the afternoon so far fitting it.

So far, it moves, which is a good sign.

Now for the sound!
