I do love the look of these loco's, but the scare stories about them...well as Tony said. Merlin's build quality was erm, variable, particularly towards the end, but there are enhanced parts out there and a sorted one is a complete joy, regards Rob The only parts I know as being available are repla...

Merlin rides again

Hello All Delivered my latest rebuild to a customer today. i returned his aged Merlin Mayflower, which was received by me as a forlorn looking box of bits and returned, dare one say, better than new. Taken some time but we finally got there. Thanks to Simon Whenmouth who helped out with new cylinder...

Re: 3 1/2 gauge Tich help

Hi i was just wandering about the boiler on the Tich about whether it needs to be brazed as said in LBSC book of how to build it or if silver solder would be sufficient as its used in 16mm coal fired boilers ?? I think that you are perhaps being confused by the terminology. What you call silver sol...

Ooh, very nice! Did that begin life as a Roundhouse "Stanley"? Well some of it did. Built from parts from my bits box. The body was from a Roundhouse Stanly, but modified to incorporate glazing and vertical glazing bars. The skirt was removed to expose the motion. The original Stanley powe...

[quote="Sir haydn:54045"]Well today I have been stripping an Accy Countess down for a repaint. I took a few photos at the stage I am at now. What I was suprised to find is that Accucraft have NOT used any primer on the brass and a normal house hold paint stripper took the paint off in seco...

7/8" sound wagon

Hello All Thought that you might like to see a commission I just finished. Client had bought a 7/8" scale Davenport diesel from Modelearth and wanted a matching sound wagon. I assembled and painted/weathered the tar wagon kit from Modelearth and fitted my multi-cylinder sound unit. Client is v ...

Not nitpicking but correct the spelling of guard. If you don't you'll have endless ribbing once it's burned.

Re: My New Laser cut coach :)

IMHO you have made a really good job. Have you tried cutting at 100% power speed 1.2% and engraving 100% power and 3.5% speed? You could copy the way I make my 7/8" scale axleboxes. I make the axle bearings on my turret lathe but perhaps K&S brass tubing? The axle bearing is used to locate ...

Yes it is. Also known as ,"The beast of Blackburn." So far I've fitted a RC Bangham whistle and 1/2"diameter presure gauge. I still have to fit rc to the regulator and reverser.

Ideas you can use

I am currently fettling an Edrig and thought that some of the improvements may be of interest. If you have access to a lathe then rather than buy one of those out of character safety valve covers, why not turn down the centre section to do away with that boring look? Control knobs can be turned down...
