Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

That is all very impressive and will look fantastic when you've finished. The two related things that bother me are the apparent length of the tunnel, and drainage in the cutting and tunnel. If you get a derailment in the tunnel ( and you know what Sods Law says!), or winter debris build up of leav...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Thank you for the positive comments. It has been a little while since I updated. 2020 didn't really give me much in the way of inspiration to actually do much to the railway, but I did get quite far in 2019, here are some progress pictures. Update With the easier work now completed, and the height n...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Update With the bad weather coming it was time to get some protection on the parts of the baseboard that were not made of a 'marine' type of wood. I treated the timber with some creosote substitute and covered with roof felt. A little bit of thinking and research went into the next part... The join...

It's coming along nicely there Ace. Soon be getting the track laid and some locos running before the bad weather comes and most of us can't run anything.... Thanks, I am holding off of the track laying part of the project. I know once I have rails down I'll end up playing with it... Wow that...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Good progress Ace and substantial supports which should last many years. I'm intrigued why you need the ladder, it's clearly a tool used in the construction as it keeps moving about! My guess is that it is to keep the post tops level? Hopefully that’s the plan Peter. The ladder is only there becaus...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Update So things are now progressing away from the shed and towards the lift out bridge section. Single posts, twin rails and tongue & groove planking to span the lot. https://i.imgur.com/vUy7veD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/NnjekwW.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dgQxphO.jpg So without further notice the b...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Looking very good it's crying out for a hudge bridge . Thanks, there is a bridge to be put in (see first recent post with overview) but it will be a lift out type to allow access to the grassy area. I am tempted to put a wooden trestle type bridge in somewhere though. :thumbright: The use of those ...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Thats some heavy engineering. Are you planning to plant something to hide the piers? It's only heavy because I already had the sleepers and wanted to make use of them, why not put a railway on the sleepers? :thumbleft: There will be wooden fencing to cover the void below the sleepers and hide the r...

Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

You have an amazing view from your 'garden' (more like a field!) You could get a ride on railway round all that! Thank you, I consider that I am extremely fortunate to live where I do. The field opposite is birthing calves at the present time, lovely to see them wobbling about. A ride on railway wo...

Love the garden and the possibilities are immense. Re: The Ridgemont Hills Light Railway

Hi guys, its been a while since this thread has been updated! Two house moves and several life changing events later, I am finally building my garden railway! I have moved into a remote spot not a million miles from where I used to live and have absolutely fallen on my feet with my new home. First a...

Re: Aces travels and steam ups

Thanks for your kind words folks. I love steaming in the cold, those plumes! Again blessed with good weather and another beautiful railway. ...
