Exhibition Railway.

The need for this is only a vague possibility at the moment and the event is a little way off. What we need is a G scale train to run around a continuous loop of track pulling an open wagon. Narrow gauge model is what we are looking for. To run all day. Now I run live steam on 45mm unpowered track, ...

Re: kits for broken screw mounts?

I have had this problem with everything from electric drills and TV remotes to an Accucraft Baguley Drewry. My customary fix is to bind the end of the post with cotton or polyester sewing thread and then let super glue soak into the thread to produce a strong composite reinforcement. If the thread i...

Re: Silk purse out of a pig's ear?

Well it's finished. I had to make my own conversion blocks to space the cylinders out as the commercially available ones seem to be some sort of light alloy and I don't want alloy in contact with hot wet brass. It is very crowded on the footplate, I am tinkering with the idea of making a new horizon...

Much the same as the jig I made to do mine having had no replies to my wheel quartering question: https://gardenrails.org/forum/viewtopic ... 44&t=12845

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

I have owned a certain make of kitcar for 20+ years. I find the owners club forum completely useless now and riven with arguments and primadonnas. People who used to contribute and actually drive, now drive nothing faster than an armchair and just act as know-it-all, been there done that types. On t...

The Mamod/Meccano engine hardly needs any conversion.

Quartering wheels.

I am converting from 32 to 45 gauge, I have made the blocks to space the cylinders and I have made some new axles from the correct size of stainless rod. I am already to go with assembly of the loco but I can't quite see how to press the wheels on to the axles and get the correct quartering. Any jig...

When I tried polycarbonate it failed very quickly developing lots of bubbles inside the plastic. It may have been a different grade though.

Re: Led’s keep burning out!

To calculate the value of the series resistor for one LED, take the battery voltage, subtract 2, multiply by 50. Gives result in ohms. This assumes 2 volts and 200mA to light the LED. You can do it in your head. Or you can buy LEDS with built in regulators, look for 12V leds on Ebay. They do need 9V...

Model road vehicles. and automation.

A year after the great move up North and I am ready to start building the new garden layout. But I thought it would be nice to incorporate some roads or at least farm tracks in with the railway, and then I got to thinking that it might be nice to have a Landrover plodding along the road. But how to ...

Re: Atmospheric Railway

The biggest problem of the vacuüm part in the pipe is that the piston also gets attracted by the train, so making a lot of friction inside the tube, which you don't have with linear motors.. Nevertheless an interesting way of looking at things.. :thumbleft: There need not be any net magnetic force ...

Re: Pilgrim Live Diesel

I'm the new owner of the 'Yellow' Pilgrim Merchant Bo-Bo Live Diesel pictured earlier in this thread. It is not running currently, but hope it will after a clean up and a few new bits. Does anyone know what happened to the second Pilgrim Merchant? Is it still running? I think the answer to that que...

Re: Lubricators

I have had endless trouble with my Cheddar Samson lubricator, It's weird; it's a dead leg lubricator but the oil outlet is at the bottom and is adjustable with a needle valve. I have no idea, as discussed previously, how it is supposed to work, surely the water sinks to the bottom? It is usually emp...

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

Initial tests show that it runs as smooth as it ever did, the motor is the original. I intend to use Eneloop NiMh batteries. My long term plans are to get rid of the accucraft worm drive. Worm drives are always less than 50% efficient. That means you are getting less than 50% of the tractive effort,...

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

I have relocated the motor and changed the rubber coupling for a metal universal joint. The air filter thingy on the bonnet top now doubles as an on/off switch.

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

Thanks. Just tested the running chassis on a 12V Lead acid battery perched on the chassis.. A little slow for full speed but very powerful. Then a screw fell out of the coupling rods and it jammed up and broke the rubber motor coupling. I shall order a 12V motor off Como drills and run it on 8 NiMh ...

Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

I have relocated the motor from it's usual position slanting up into the engine compartment, to below the frames. Why they chose not to put it there in the first place I can't understand, it's so much neater there. So I now have lots of space for batteries under the bonnet. The motor is the original...

There are a lot of cheap rip-offs of these chargers, best to buy from a reputable dealer who offers a money back guarantee.
