Model road vehicles. and automation.

A year after the great move up North and I am ready to start building the new garden layout. But I thought it would be nice to incorporate some roads or at least farm tracks in with the railway, and then I got to thinking that it might be nice to have a Landrover plodding along the road. But how to ...

Re: Atmospheric Railway

The biggest problem of the vacuüm part in the pipe is that the piston also gets attracted by the train, so making a lot of friction inside the tube, which you don't have with linear motors.. Nevertheless an interesting way of looking at things.. :thumbleft: There need not be any net magnetic force ...

Re: Pilgrim Live Diesel

I'm the new owner of the 'Yellow' Pilgrim Merchant Bo-Bo Live Diesel pictured earlier in this thread. It is not running currently, but hope it will after a clean up and a few new bits. Does anyone know what happened to the second Pilgrim Merchant? Is it still running? I think the answer to that que...

Re: Lubricators

I have had endless trouble with my Cheddar Samson lubricator, It's weird; it's a dead leg lubricator but the oil outlet is at the bottom and is adjustable with a needle valve. I have no idea, as discussed previously, how it is supposed to work, surely the water sinks to the bottom? It is usually emp...

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

Initial tests show that it runs as smooth as it ever did, the motor is the original. I intend to use Eneloop NiMh batteries. My long term plans are to get rid of the accucraft worm drive. Worm drives are always less than 50% efficient. That means you are getting less than 50% of the tractive effort,...

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

I have relocated the motor and changed the rubber coupling for a metal universal joint. The air filter thingy on the bonnet top now doubles as an on/off switch.

Re: Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

Thanks. Just tested the running chassis on a 12V Lead acid battery perched on the chassis.. A little slow for full speed but very powerful. Then a screw fell out of the coupling rods and it jammed up and broke the rubber motor coupling. I shall order a 12V motor off Como drills and run it on 8 NiMh ...

Batteries for an Accucraft Baguley

I have relocated the motor from it's usual position slanting up into the engine compartment, to below the frames. Why they chose not to put it there in the first place I can't understand, it's so much neater there. So I now have lots of space for batteries under the bonnet. The motor is the original...

Re: iMax B6 charger - starter guide

There are a lot of cheap rip-offs of these chargers, best to buy from a reputable dealer who offers a money back guarantee.

Accucraft Baguley

I am currently converting an Accucraft Baguley (later type) to battery RC. I need to remove the cranks, can anyone tell me what size of allen key I need to remove the little screws that hold the cranks to the axles?

Isn't the anti vacuum valve (snifting valve?) in the live steam line after the regulator and the top up valve only in the boiler before the regulator?.
Nope, one is on the boiler the other is on top of the sight glass fitting.

Top up valves and anti-vacuum valves.

I have a Cheddar Samson with a top up valve and an anti vacuum valve, now both of these do the same job; they let stuff in and don't let stuff out.

So why do you need both? Surely a anti vacuum valve could be made to allow filling through it?

I'll have it if you don't want it...:)

Are the 32mm wheels available?
Nope! I have driven the axles out and will fit longer ones.
