Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

I'm following your build thread with great interest. Very nice work Dave!
How do you manage those nice straight straight cuts in thick sheet metal?

I'd also like to know how this lubricator works. Does anyone have a good explanation?
In my Samson it is always empty at the end of a run, I gues I keep the valve open too much.

I thought the Samson has a factory original dead leg lubricator?
Why do you want to replace it?

A whistle will have a narrow range of pressure it sounds good at. Any lower and it won't sound, any higher and it will overblow.
The pressure it sounds at is proportional to the height of the whistle "mouth". A low opening will make it sound at a lower pressure.

Thats really nice of your wife!
I have an almost identical Samson and am very pleased with it.
By the way, I have fitted an anti vacuum valve to avoid the boiler sucking oil from the lubricator. Clevedon steam sells the valve and you can easily fit it to the top of the water gauge.

The bracket itself shouldn't affect it. It is just objects in the path of the air flow at the whistle's mouth that should be avoided.

From the picture it looks like the long bolt is exactly in front of the whistle's mouth. It shouldn't have any other objects very close to it, or it could affect the sound.

Beautiful work!
The only way to avoid a lot of condensation is to provide for adequate ventilation. Your house should have an opening somewhere at the top and another one at the bottom, made such that rain water can't get in. You could perhaps use the chimneys for that.

Very nice. Watching the videos, it looks like the red vehicle is faster in reverse. A pusher propeller configuration seems more effective.

Your trestles and woodwork are beautiful. The only thing I can think of that would improve the looks would be your rail crossing a little stream of running water.
