Re: Ringbalin Light Railway

It's been a while as I had to wait till my shoulder recovered from an overuse injury (SWMBO keeps banging on about old age) but I have now started taking the upper level, line that came down via the "High" trestle back up "Uphill" to where it started. To save timber I cut a steel C purlin so it form...

Re: What to do with a tiny, barren wasteland?

I never really "got" the RH Bundaberg, but it looks just right in that setting. It wasn't a popular model from what I've heard, very much a niche prototype. But given it was a relatively quick conversion of the existing Innisfail Fowler, one can see why RH picked it for that year's release, whilst ...

Garret Question

In a conventional steam locomotive the cylinders exhaust went out the stack via the smoke box which aided draw of the fire.
In the Garret design, where did the cylinders exhaust steam go?
As there is still only one smoke box and stack was the exhaust channeled through them or another method?

Re: What to do with a tiny, barren wasteland?

Cheers, fellers. Weirdly, those two weren't fussed by the state of the yard - if I'm honest, I was getting sick of seeing that mess. 17/05/20 Some more plants delivered, (always need more though) and in trying to use up that pile of gravel (yes, I over-ordered again) I got to starting on the gravel...

Re: Dog bone loop running

When I started I had a dogbone track but I did not spring load my points I just let the trains push through them and left them set like that, that way the train ran clockwise then anti clockwise on alternate circuits. It was my way of breaking the boredom of watching a train running the same way all...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

Thanks Graeme Much food for thought here. I was considering creating a photographic backscene with shots taken around Peckforton. I'll give that a try first, but if it doesn't work or I need to fill some gaps then I'll try tapping into my artistic side 🤔😏 Rik Have a look at this it is a UK based si...

Re: Peckforton Light Railway - Video Library

Excellent stuff, well done, that'll be really handy. I wonder if you'll resist the urge to add scenery??? I did wonder about a backscene ...... Rik Rik, Some inspiration for backdrops can be found here. https://ringbalin.blogspot.com/p/construction-logs.html They are painted with white acrylic pain...

Re: Ringbalin Light Railway

What panel material are you using for baseboard as it looks like wood? The framework is made out of recycled hardwood decking boards. The baseboards are a Fibre Cement product called "Villaboard" in Australia it is used for lining bathrooms, they have been painted with a water based paving paint to...

Re: Ringbalin Light Railway

Wow! That's some serious engineering, Graham. will the upper track descend to join the lower one before the lift-up bridge? Rik Yes Rik, The pictures below show a string line that is the route the upper level will take about a 3-3.5% grade. The bridge leaving up against the fence in the background ...

Re: Ringbalin Light Railway

Graham, very impressive. Thanks Jimmy, There is still some more to be done to finish the upper level loop. An idea I have is for a peninsula coming off the centre of the lower loop which will have a sugar mill to act as the focal point of the whole layout. Time will tell if that comes to fruition j...

Re: Ringbalin Light Railway

The framework for Stage 3 has been finished and the baseboards for the Lower Loop running through Stage 3 have been installed, this now allows me to lay track to complete the Lower Loop so I can run a train continuously. Once they are painted track laying can commence. Stage3 baseboard toward back f...
