I've turned into a bit of  Merlin collector as they were the locos I dreamed of when a teenager. The mid period locos with the revering valve seem to run well if stored dry for a long time, once you have cleaned off the old dried up oil. Ones which look well used can be a problem if bits are worn. ...

This engine lacks the factory RC controled whistle.  How did Merlin control the whisle and can it be added to an engine that lacks it?  I have a Regner whistle that I could mount below the boiler, but till I get the engine in my hands, I do not know where, if possible, to get steam from or how to c...

Thanks steve ! My concern is about smoothness while stoping or starting the locomotive and slow speed. Furthermore it will be RC. From what I saw on the videos it's harder to get slow speed with a Roudhouse than with a Ragleth. But again, maybe I'm totally wrong !! Also I know that I can fit a SLOM...

There is no real running difference between the Roundhouse Lady Anne and Billy as they have very similar boiler and chassis. Roun dhouse locos are very smooth to run normally and are factory test run so always work well straight out of the box. Accucraft Ragleths run well once run in but can be a li...

Matt Towell of Barley Pit Works serviced and got mine running last year, so he would be the best to ask or send it to him to fix for you or Dave Mees who has been fixing these for years. Mine seems to have a issue with steam oil getting cooked in the super-heater pipe which was partially blocked.

If get a copy of the kit version's instructions it will be clear what to do. It was a long time ago I made mine but I thought the frame just dropped out once you took out the end screws.

For that price and level of detail they should really take the stupid Mamod logo off the smoke box door and have proper builder plates.

I also have one of these but as an 0-4-0, quite powerful little things although sadly mine does have a tenancy to wobble around a lot although no frame erosion is present. I dont think theres a lot i can do though due to the wheels being fixed on the axles. Also the water gauge on these locos is a ...

I've been meaning to check myself but do you think the windows are Mamod items? The spectacle rings are smaller diameter than Mamod ones. I was lucky to find one that was very close to the size of the other 3 to replace the one that was missing. At some point someone had hacked away at the rear cab...

These were made from part finished Beck Anna G scale loco or later models left over parts. The 32mm versions have the frames moved in and axles shortened (with variable skill!). There is also a saddle tank version which was the first Merlin Monarch. The 32mm manual versions often (but not always) h...
