I can offer something here. It would be good if you could physically see it and handle it no matter what the make. Grab the chuck and check its play. Laterally and up and down. They often come of the production line with varying tolerances at the cheaper end of the spectrum. I went to buy top qualit...

You know the pistons get sided? The faces do too. Never interchange the oscillating faces. Going back to pistons, when taking the rod off the wheel don't rotate them. I marked the brass hole connection at the end of the rod (outside part, small mark with scribe) in case I removed the con rod from th...

Put some wet and dry on a sheet of glass or a known flat surface making sure it is all flat. Add some oil and gently rub flat the face. Start coarse then go fine with the wet and dry.( Lapping faces in) As a finish go medium and rub say twice one way then 45 degrees the other on both faces as a fini...

Jet loco

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orgmjfump8M A friend of mine crashed his polystyrene ducted fan aircraft model. I used this with a cycle drink bottle and spinner to make the Jet loco. It has a top speed of around 40mph but we can't open it up on the D.L.R.. Reverse is a model car speed controller, t...

The air ratio has to be specific to work. Mamod have had many issues over the years when changing new models, getting the air holes/ shield right. There is more in this game. Chris on the Mamod section highlights some issues with early new models. All more clever than first seemed.

Might be worth running it a while before major changes. I found with Mamods you get to know when the water is running out. It slows and wants the runner to turn the gas up in effect. Don't. Allow to cool, and re-oil the running gear/moving parts. A gauge is a 'nice to have' but not essential, when y...
