If you have the original 12v Playmobil Motor / drive unit I run them with a 7.5v battery and no speed control and they amble along with any size load. The battery will fit inside the loco with careful surgery!

Bonsai Sieves

The most successful method I find of getting the right size grit is to buy a bonsai sieve which is usually stainless steel and contains three mesh sizes. My Danny

Having completed a similar Danny I found it went very well with a miniature RC 7.2volt battery as it seemed to last longer than on the multiple AA set up which is supplied.
