I saw an interesting little drive unit from Mindset, available from Maplins I don't know if these are these same as the Tamiya ones but be careful that the "gearbox" will fit between the frames (or wheels if you are going for inside frame) of a 32mm gauge loco. Definitely worth visiting t...

Thank you everybody. Unfortunately the loco has restricted access so I think I will have to leave the battery in. It seems that slow charge using the balance plug on a good charger ( I have a B6) will be the least risk, if not necessarily the recommended method :? Once again thanks to all for the ad...

Charging Lipos in models

Ho Ho and Merry Christmas all. I am about to install a Lipo battery in a model for the first time. I am familiar with installing NiMh batteries and arranging for a charging socket. The Lipo needs both the power and balance leads connecting up. Is it simply a case of arranging that the power side is ...

Garden Rail and Narrow Gauge World Magazines

For several years I have been subscribing to both these magazines as digital editions through "Exact Editions". Particularly useful since it gave one access to all back numbers My subscription for both has come up for renewal and it seems that they no longer carry them. They seem to be ava...

Thanks Jim, hoping to build a tank wagon next using Annie's Hudson catalogue as a guide....I don't count rivets :D I have one of those planned too, but am also pending a house move. My tank wagon will use an electronic project "potting" box and a Binnie skip chassis https://c4.staticflick...

Rik, excellent video. Lots of inspiration there. Obviously the head shunter is so quick because he is assisted by a very nifty combined shunter's pole and point lever :) . What is it?

Interesting that they are both non UK locos. As a colonial I am quite Ok with that but the Fowler Tender loco is on my purchase list before either of these, especially since it is available as a kit. I also wonder if the British engineering of the NDM-6 makes it worth about twice as much as the plin...

After recent comments on the forum about Ozmotors I had wondered if this was a possibility. I think the main problem would be making it narrow enough to fit between the frames for 32mm gauge. I think a home made port block is the answer but I have not yet measured it up. I am sure someone somewhere...

Phil There has been another tread on here recently about DIY points and one of the recommendations, which I have also used in the past , is to forget peco sleepers and use  copper coated sleepers (from MArkway and possibly other sources.)  If you were going to solder to your non-ferrous pins this mi...

I can remember being at a model railway show (York 1968 I think) and seeing old Slater of Plasticard fame, demonstrating the wonders of MEKPAK on his stand. If I recall correctly, one of the problems with MEK is that when the fumes pass through a cigarette, a certain amount of Phosgene is produced. ...
