Re: Fly cranks for IP Jessie
Does anyone know where I could buy some metal ones to replace them? IPE used to supply metal cranks in the early Jessie kits, so maybe someone has some sitting around and would part with them. Presumably they use the same crankpins and sizes as the current plastic design. Walsall and Roundhouse bot...

Re: Any idea where and when this photo was taken?
Having another look at the picture, i agree it is most likely to be taken at Portmadoc harbour. As Jack said, the curve of the sidings and the line in the foreground match the layout at Portmadoc. It looks like ship masts above the carriages (not the simplex roof supports) further suggesting Portmad...

Re: Any idea where and when this photo was taken?
Hi, I can’t figure out where it’s taken or when but i would say it’s definitely pre preservation days as the coaches in the background are not semi derelict and if they had been restored would be in the green and cream livery. The simplex was purchased in Colonel Stevens days so was around before th...

Re: Joining code 200 bullhead to other stuff
Thank you Andrew, I knew it was a junction fishplate but didn’t know it was an unusual type. I actually found it on a street near where I live, phoned a friend up and we put it in his car. How it ended up in the street I’ll never know. I find permanent way fascinating, I’ve got a proper book on the ...

I actually have a junction fishplate, unfortunately it’s a bit to big.

Re: Joining code 200 bullhead to other stuff
I’ve used silver soldered joints between different rail sections for years, works well. I believe the Festiniog railway has flatbottom welded to bullhead as well, so it’s true to life.

Re: Essel Engineering Fowler
Hi Mitch, I have an Essel Fowler, quite a powerful loco. Nice slow running too, as usual with Essel well made and reliable. My only dislike is that the battery box projects into the cab so there is little room for a driver. Speed control is on the bonnet disguised as an exhaust.

Re: New Mamod Hunslet?
I saw it at Steam in Beds yesterday, nice looking loco in its own right but not really a quarry Hunslet. I think they should market it as a simply a quarry loco. Apart from on here I can not find any mention or pictures of it anywhere.

Re: Roundhouse cranks
Hi All,
Thanks for advice given. I checked the screws and found no trace of loctite, so,reassembled the cranks etc without loctite. They are nice and tight, but I will keep an eye on them in case they loosen.
Regards Alan.

Roundhouse cranks
Morning all,
I am going to remove the cranks and conrod off my Bulldog loco. Was just wondering if the screws holding cranks in place need screw lock or are just tightened up as they are.
Thanks Alan.

Re: Mamod Stirling
I was looking forward to some reviews on the Stirling as I really like the look of it The problem with the current review policy is there is no longevity or durabilty testing. Mike Wakefield has one of the two review piston valve Thomas Telford's, and just over 2 years later he had to fit replaceme...

Re: Why Live Steam?
Been giving this some more thought. We are a broad church and we all like what we like, which is how it should be. For me, I find it annoying that battery locos generally tend to be regarded as something to run when you have not got time to steam up or something to retrieve a dead steamer. To me as ...

Re: Why Live Steam?
Hi all, Although I enjoy seeing and running steam, I have far more battery locos in my fleet than steam. I run them far more often and enjoy them for what they are, a loco, not a substitute. In fact the first forum I look at on here is the battery one. This is my personal preference, the hobby would...

Never seen a tenmille kit like this either. All I can say is the centre buffer/coupling is a brandbright one.

Re: SVLR new loco - ERYRI
Hi, In the manual for Little John, it says that there are 2 O rings supplied, which can be fitted behind transmitter wheel, holding it in set position as well. I don't think the transmitter can be switched off as in some other Roundhouse locos. Sold my Little John as I have been reducing my fleet, s...

Re: SVLR new loco - ERYRI
Hi,
One crude but quick way of setting speed before you modify the controller is to move the tyre on controller so that it is pushing against controller body. So wherever you set speed control wheel it stays put. Crude but effective.
Regards Alan.
