Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Hard to beat those hooks for couplings. I use 'em on everything. I've seen them used for couplings before but never tried them for myself. My local hardware store is closing them out at eight for a dollar so I think I'd better stock up while they're still there, and the nails were a few cents for a...

Re: Here's the land for the future railroad

Wow, that's something else! You guys sure seem to have scarier critters than we do up here, I think the freezing winter helps keep the bugs in check. We had some hornets nesting in the downspout next to my railway construction site last summer. I had warned my 3YO son to stay away while I sprayed th...

Re: A Ruston-ish ....

Although at the rate you are going at present, you will have the diesel equivalent of Boulton's Siding soon. I'm reading that book now as a result of our 'ugliest locos' thread from a few months back. I agree, the PLR does seem to be amassing a considerable roster of funny little diesels! (And Rik,...

Re: Fancy joining this 16mm association special interest group anyone

Are the group planning any exhibitions soon, or does the stiff cold of spring have them shrinking away? (I was thinking about ditching my clothing too, but I don't think I could pull it off!)

I'll get my coat...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

Thanks Drew, it could be useful. I've seen a couple of other comments on the subject so it could be of wider interest. I tried using Giphy when I did a fly-round of my Gmeinder loco drawings, but I wasn't sure if you gif-ised a video or did it directly using stills. I would be a +1 for the gif tuto...

Re: Gmeinder & Co loco

A must see video of a Gmeinder loco, and several others, working in preservation in a superb quarry location.... Ausgezeichnet, super toll! Love the video, Peter. That Siemens battery loco is really booking it. Can't believe I went right past this museum and Cité du Train and missed them both! :cry...

Re: Nolwyn Valley Tramway

What a wild week it's been! The snow melted enough over the weekend that I was able to dig in some big stones for footers under most of the front wall on Monday... Screenshot_20240405-085431__01.jpg But then throughout Tuesday and Wednesday we had freezing rain turning to 5-6 inches of snow on top. ...

It all looks so green! I've been hoping to get a start on my gardening soon but we just got 6 inches of snow this week. At least I can't see the weeds. :dontknow:

I'll be honest, on the first pass I didn't suspect anything untill somewhere between 'increase exposure of the group' and 'see our members in person'! :laughing3:

Re: 32mm/45mm railway

Perhaps the 2 foot line is a privately owned industrial/mining/field railway. It could have been built with military surplus stock after the first Great War when there was extra 600mm/2ft equipment going around, or maybe the 2ft gauge track is easier to lay temporary sections for something like a pe...

I'm absolutely interested, though also on a long timescale. (Maybe a next winter project ;) ) I think it would fit very well on my line... my little Thornas was originally meant to be a Hunslet before I got seriously distracted!

If it's short, four wheel coaching stock you have in mind, you have up to eight in your hands already. Your four bogie coaches have the potential of being cut down and modified whilst improving your scratch building skills at the same time. If it is possible to re-gauge the wheelsets, axleguards co...

Re: Wibbly wobbly roof

Rik, I've had the same issue with some of my cardboard roofs but hadn't expected it to happen with a 3D printed roof. I have an OpenSCAD model somewhere for roof battens with an interlocking spine; I use it for cardboard roofs but it might be usable as a form for thin ply or plastic. Screenshot_2024...
