It was a pretty dismal day when I visited some years ago, too!

Didn't some disaster befall the mine?

Reading through this thread has certainly raised a laugh or two. Needless to say I agree with everything that has been said thus far. The worst example I have seen of the 'nanny state' in action was seeing a Mum chaperoning her two children, one on a scooter the other on a pushbike, down the high st...

Thanks for sharing, Matt. I had planned to visit, as the K1 and K4 are a great pairing, but I am holding out for the first weekend of the Spring steam gala in a little over a month's time. The NYMR is my all time favourite preserved line. On my first visit in the late 90's I remember standing on a d...

I've been reading it during lunch breaks at work. One of the best in a while.

As Enginehouse said the article on brake vans is very interesting and I hope to incorporate his compensation method on my stock in the future.

Oh dear. And I thought it was only me that had a tram issue. I seem to remeber that there was a large scale tram exhibition layout doing the rounds a few years ago. Does anyone else remember it or am I dreaming again? There's a chap near me who has built the majority of trams for this layout. He ha...

I'm in the second batch due for delivery in the first quarter of next year. Guess that shows how popular they are if the first batch has already sold out! Nope, the first batch hasn't sold out, my Dad's still got a couple of the first batch left unsold! :? I guess you ordered direct from Roundhouse...

Great minds and all that ;)

I'm yet to decide on a lining scheme, shall have to do some research to find some inspiration

I decided to order one in brown, it should contrast nicely with the white roof.

That is quite simply gorgeous, Brian!

I have a DJB coal firing conversion kit for a Ragleth, and the intention is to turn it out in a similar paint scheme.

It's THE book for those who model the L&B, and one of my favourites on my book shelf!

Lots of suggestions made that I whole heartedly agree with.

A nice, small tender engine (such as the 4-4-0 Lawley Paul has suggested) would have me reaching for my wallet.

If not that, anything that isn't a Welsh prototype for a change!

It is quite 'humbling' when you can compare model to prototype like this.

It certainly makes you appreciate more the work that goes into scaling things down.

Well, it does for me!

My first proper job was driving a 12 1/4" gauge Alan Keef steam outline engine in a local park during summer holidays. Then followed a couple of years in a model shop; and when the outlook there was bleak I got my apprenticeship working where I am now as a fitter assembling water pumps. Our big...

Dan,

When I toyed with the idea of a 'Dougal' in 5" gauge, I emailed the W&LLR through their website with a few questions. After a week or so, I got a reply with all my questions answered.

I urge you to do the same.

I didn't ask about the colour, though!

It's great to see these two icons of narrow gauge steam on their way back into service. Seeing 'Barber' reminds me that at the last 16mm AGM; Swift Sixteen had a 'survey' of sorts for potential interest in a new body kit based on the Harrogate Gasworks (where 'Barber' worked) Peckett which is now ba...
