Re: New line, advice needed!

I hadn’t looked back at this post for a while, thanks for the advice, as it happens I ended up going with fibre cement board, and once I’d got the correct blade on my circular saw it’s done the job very nicely so far. 578B9267-DED9-4559-87AD-AF2D27DAA6D3.jpeg 4C83763E-1374-488A-8A05-EEFC602672F9.jpeg

Re: New line, advice needed!

I suspect paving slabs will be a bit too heavy, it’s surprisingly strong but I think that might be asking a bit much

New line, advice needed!

I’ve been a bit quiet on here of late, mostly due to a house move putting most projects on hold. The upside is that I finally have my own garden in which to build a line. I started yesterday by constructing a frame for the steam up/yard area out of square section pvc guttering, I’m now trying to thi...

Eric build

I’ve been slowly beavering away at the ‘steam trains in your garden’ Eric loco, just reached the stage of having a chassis that runs on air. It’s basically as described in the book with the exception of removable axle boxes with ball bearings fitted, pretty much as per dazzas epic build! Much use of...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Took her for another run at guildford last night, did a bit of load testing with a borrowed rake of wagons as my 7 weren’t really troubling it! Pretty surprised it managed to shift them. Some bonus footage of some lovely locos down there.

High temp silicon sealant could be an option if you’re concerned about whether paint will handle the heat

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

Out of interest how easy are these to take apart in the future? Apologies, missed this question. It depends how you build it really, I tried to make mine easy to work on so the bodywork bolts on in sections, and the wheels are Walsall ones one square axles so can be easily removed without disturbin...

Re: Gauge 1 ‘project’

finally got to give her a proper test run at gmes, few minor tweaks needed but pretty happy overall! Bonus footage of a couple of matts locos at the end.

My ‘rusty’ train, kit built lady Anne ‘Rosie’ with a simply 7/8ths body pulling a mix of swift sixteen and binnie stock, all looking like they’ve seen better days!

Re: Yet another Ellie

It goes better than expected, it’ll definitely get worked a bit harder once it’s run in a bit! Still looking at ways to get it producing a bit more steam though, think a burner redesign may be on the cards

Re: Yet another Ellie

First proper running session on a visit to a mates line, definitely improving with use. Keeping trains light for now but feels like it’d pull a fair bit more.

Re: Llewellyn Loco Works #1

Just a thought, maybe a ptfe seat in the needle valve could be a solution?

Re: Yet another Ellie

You may be right about the gearing, but now the cranks are drilled and pinned it’s a pain to change it unfortunately. I deliberately geared it low as my little line has some nasty gradients on it. I’m hoping as it runs in and loosens up it’ll be a bit more efficient, and hopefully some burner tweaks...

Re: Yet another Ellie

Been chipping away at the Elle and got the bodywork and rc install done. It works but not 100% happy, it’s a bit reluctant to get started, as you can see in the video there’s exhaust up the chimney before it starts moving, I’m thinking the tolerances in the Chinese reversing valve may not be up to s...

Many thanks for the measurements, much appreciated. Any chance you could take one up inside the firebox? Looking forward to seeing this come together should be interesting!
