Having bought the original loco I was somewhat surprised by the toy-like mechanism, which didn't work properly either. The replacement gearbox (along with brass rods and bearings hidden by the plastic ones) gave me the running I was after. However, the rods etc were only really a temporary arrangeme...

Postscript

After a 18 months or so of hard work the gearbox wore out! Or rather it did, but in one direction only. My line is end to end, mostly on a a falling gradient in one direction only, and I always run locos the same way round. And one day, having gone down the line the Baguley wouldn't come back up aga...

Smoke Rings

I was running my 7/8ths Hunslet in the still, warm, late afternoon air, of a sunny hot winter's day recently, and it produced "smoke" rings at the same spot on two successive trips. Lurking behind a linside bush with a camera for a third run, and since, to capture this phenomenom has produ...

Been busy renovating our house, hence not been paying attention to posts on here! I still have some bogies available. Half of the archbar variety are gone, but the cast steel didn't sell as well for some reason; I only had 50 kits of each type produced incidentally. I'm not planning to produce any m...

After removing the smokebox exhaust on mine I slipped some rolled mesh down the chimney to catch the water etc, which despite an offset exhaust stub still ended up all over the loco. The oil will also burn off giving smoke..... My Garratt is currently stopped with slipped tyres on the driving wheels...
