There's so much support, advice and inspiration to be found online - if only everyone would just stay in one place! Andrew. And there are silver-crested gents on the e-groups muttering similar sentiments into their moustaches about online facilities like this forum, and in the early days of e-group...

Be creative. A gate-box called Monks Road would naturally have signals plated eMaR.

The ten mile garden railway

Well, ten (and a half) scale miles really, although even that would be about half a mile long if laid end to end so I cheat with a couple of loops. There's only 87 yards of actual circuits out there, plus loops and links, but by a bit of cunning planning and imaginative operating (using the same nam...

I believe this is a GRS product, based on the mouldings for their range of Lynton and Barnstaple coaches.

LRJA No1 is back

At age 15 I bought my first loco, an SLK1. It was £50 and earned with the proceeds of my first summer job, cleanup in a roadside cafe at £1 an hour, so in terms of earning power cost me more in sweat than a Wrekin would today. For seven years "she" was my one and only loco and ran everywhe...

Winster Valley Railway, by Meifod 2000

Does anyone know who "Meifod 2000" are? I ask because I've just watched and thoroughly enjoyed a DVD production of theirs- "A visit to the Winster Valley Railway- Part 2". This was a borrowed copy, so I'd like one of my own, and part 1 of course if it's there to be had.

That must have been the table for the Merioneth society...we had nothing to do with it, so I have no idea what was on that table! I believe it was a special arrangement to dispose of the assets of a deceased member- therefore kept separate from the main M2M operation and accounts because unlike M2M...

The Ballymena lines had some large saddle tanks, particularly "the bruiser" 2-6-0T, so I can see what you mean.

I know their kits don't have an outstanding reputation for economy or ease of use, but GRS might be the answer in this case. They produce a range of L&B coach kits using an interesting construction method. small mouldings of individual compartment sides that are then stuck to a carcase (I believ...

As an alternative to transfers, have you considered stencils? A few years ago the 16mm Association sent out a freebie to members, a brass etch with some detail parts and stencils of numbers 0-9 and the words TARE and TONS. This was primarily intended for junior members to apply to their free wagon k...

In the event such plans probably helped me to appraise the (small, multi-use, multi-user) garden a little more honestly and accept a certain degree of compromise. I looked at a couple of real WHR locations, and in the end decided on an imaginary branch with WHR features. At the moment those are lim...

You might find your choices improve if you opt for softwood. The open grain allows creosote or other preservatives to absorb more thoroughly than hardwood, which could pay dividends in terms of lifespan.

Anyone for inspiration?

Looking for something completely different, I found this little beauty. It's a one-of-a-kind articulated railcar from the 750mm Saxon narrow gauge. One very unusual feature- look at the centre "power car", especially its couplings and wheels. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Iv3rda4vk70/...

Some features of this site look kinda familiar. Are you the guy who asked for WHR railway design suggestions on the NGGarden group a while back? (I replied, with something based on the General Undertaking).
