Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

What a well mannered machine Dave, I'd be well chuffed if I were you, pun intended. Sorry I wrestled that closely guarded secret out of you, that is big cylinder bore, larger than it looks. Is there a specific reason for choosing 13/16 bore? This has been a really inspiring build dave, and thanks fo...

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

I have fixed-up all the old image URL's so all the images are viewable again in the first 7 pages. I've also removed the double signatures and made those first videos viewable again  Very interesting Dave, I suppose you won't really be able to tell until running loaded on your railway. Did...

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

Very very pretty Dave. Suddenly when you get some distance you can see it as a whole rather than a collection of components. More power to your elbow  .

Best,

Re: Avonside Heisler loco info?

Hi Malcolm, So sorry for such a slow reply, been a busy week getting everything sorted before I go in for back surgery on Moday. So hopefully things should start to improve and I can slowly return to making things. Thank you for such a detailed post on your engine build! The supplier information is ...

Re: Avonside Heisler loco info?

Hi Malcolm and thanks for posting! I don't have a copy of the Peter Angus book, I had no idea that it even existed (quite a new hobby for me) and happy to say it's now on order. Thank you for the link to your stunning engine in action, I had seen pictures of it but hadn't seen the video and I'm now ...

Re: Internet "forums" are a thing of the past

Completely agree with you Rod, diminishing maybe but not demising. And like you I have no problem with anyone who has a hobby, no matter what it is, I am however worried about people who have none. Browsing social media is not a hobby in my book, a proper hobby is one that takes time and effort to m...

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

The pipes are different sizes 1/8" for steam and 5/32" for exhaust when running forwards. We'll see if it makes any difference, it was to ease the flow of exhaust. Hi Dave, I thought that might be the case, as well as easing exhaust out you might be keeping inlet gas speeds high for good ...

Avonside Heisler loco info?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me find any details of Avonside Heisler four cylinder articulated locomotives? I'm laid up (more accurately down) at the moment after herniating three discs in my back, one severely, so I've had a lot of thinking time and have landed on this locomoti...

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

Hi Dave, Thank you so much for those pics, I'm so glad I asked, that's a sweetly engineered solution. I would never have guessed the details from your other pictures. I bet they were fiddly to make too, is that 3 parts per pipe, or is the abutment turned as part of the pipe? Also, what's the reason ...

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

Hi Dave,

Sorry to barrage you with more questions. How are the pipes between the rotary valve and the port blocks fitted? Are they a fit, silver soldered or threaded and o ringed in some way?

Best,

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

Ah ha, thanks Dave I see it now. It's a such simple and elegant way of doing it, and didn't Mr Kalashnikov say "simplicity is underrated", or words to that effect. You have inspired me to have a go!

Hi Dazzer,

Just in case no one else is a fan of where's Wally, I spotted Merv, lmao!

Have been away for a while and now catching up on your beautiful build thread and workmanship, keep it coming.

Re: Wild Rose ~ Quarry Hunslet

Hi Dave, I've just re-read your build thread, and as everyone has said it's a beautiful job. Could you explain the plumbing of the cylinders please? I understand they are double acting and reversible, but how do you keep the exhaust going up the chimney? My tiny brain has tried and failed to work it...

Re: Suggestions please: removable ground-level section

Hi CSL, just to confuse matters further, could you cut a hole in the brick wall and situate the points there (above the 'ground level railway' on your drawing or there abouts). That way you wouldn't have to worry about concrete and point work, which I agree with you, probably not the best bed fellow...
