Re: India

Wow Rik that is one heck of a journey. I bet you were glad of the sanctum of the ashram to recover. Great updates, thanks for taking the time Rik. That last photo, the mound and adjacent hole in the foreground looks man made, could you make out what it was? Very atmospheric photo of great proportion...

Re: India

Rik only seems like yesterday that you were planning this trip. Photos are fantastic. Food sounds scrummy. It is very generous of you to post whilst on holiday. Feels a bit like "letter from America" or "from our own correspondent". We should reciprocate and send you our pictures...

Jim your line has certainly started to get that Industrial atmosphere. The chap on the fence in the gasworks photo, is he an ex employee? Love the moggy minor van too.

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway

Peter I totally agree that personal interaction is important. I think this is a great area of debate and I could start a thread in the off topic section if there is an appetite for it. As a quick reply though, I think that there is room for everyone and developments like this may be a way to inspire...

Re: A Home Wi-Fi Connected Garden Railway

Michael can only agree with what Jim said "Wow" you have been very busy, it looks great. I would be very interested in learning more how you use this infrastructure to actually run your trains. For instance do you have multiple trains on the line and use this to control them? This infrastr...

Re: Mantle Valley

Thanks for the comments, I am looking forward to the warmer weather to get back out and carry on. Looking back at the photos myself it all looks very barren and moonlike. I have some tree cuttings to plant, which I may try burying in the pot to restrict growth but I also plan to get some dwarf varie...

Mantle Valley

Hi All we have been busy since we last posted about the railway. We have swapped out the 45mm track for 32mm and changed the layout a bit. We are planning to have a dogbone folded back on itself so that we can have continuous running if we want and we can also do end to end with running around. The ...

I have never used one before and I never did metalwaork at school all those years ago but I am very excited about what I may be able to make. I have bought a couple of books and I have s...

Re: 71 Mile Garden Railway anyone?? Channel 4 - 7th Jan

It seems like I may be the only one but ...............I liked it. It is a bit of light hearted fun on a Sunday evening to contrast the frippery of the costume dramas. I click into "suspend disbelief " mode as it is telly and sit back and enjoy.

There I have said it.

Re: Why Live Steam?

Rik, You asked about the attraction of live steam. An idea to help the analysis. Emulating what you like about the hobby but with steam instead of electric As well as prompting this discussion you could do a live experiment. e.g. You could run your schedule with live steamers. This would present new...
