Re: Stormy weather

I remember about three years ago there was a magnificent storm, I was doing a history exam at the time when all the lights went out (still finished the exam though IIRC! ) I remember distinctly seeing a 4-5ft diameter tree which had been felled by the storm across the road soon after

Re: Stormy weather

Tomorrow there's a red weather warning in the West of Ireland, all schools have been instructed to close and everything has been called off, the tail end of a hurricane is looming by all accounts, looks perfectly calm out at the time of writing  :( :pale:

I'm getting strong vibes of Schull station going by the track plan, all it needs is an engine shed at the back perpendicular to the running lines coming off the turntable :thumbright:

Re: Narrow, standard or broad?

Like most people here I am primarily interested in narrow gauge, but if I may make the case for 7' broad gauge, its not all 'North Stars' and 'Lord of the Isles', imagine say, one of the small E B Wilsons that built the Holyhead breakwater pulling some ancient 4 wheelers along a backwater branch lin...

Narrow, standard or broad?

It occurs to me that pretty much all our regulars on here model narrow gauge of one sort or another, so I was wondering, how many people model standard gauge or broad gauge in the garden? As a side note 2.5" gauge in 16mm scale or 3.5" in 7/8" scale represents 4' gauge which allows mo...

Likewise, I wouldn't mind seeing a piccie or two of that rake, as you can see from my profile picture, I have a great fondness for that line

Re: Otto bash

Greak work! :thumbleft: by pure coincidence I did an approximate scale drawing of Kettering no. 3 earlier this week to get a feel for it as a 16mm scale loco on 32mm gauge, looking forward to see how it turns out Mine will very much be an 'approximate' model, inspired by the original. Btw - if you ...

Re: 16mm and its relationship with other scales

Interesting to note that a typical 16mm wagon kit costs about the same as a 00 gauge wagon which costs the same as an n gauge wagon, as 16mm is 8 times the scale of n gauge, I rather fancy thats better value

Re: Mamod upgrade

Those Janet boilers have no dome though, do they have the plastic sight glass and standard position of bolts on the backhead for the fixing thereof? Nope and nope. No dome - not needed, but Swift 16 do an aftermarket dome that sits on top of the water filler valve. The RWM copper boilers don't have...
