Re: Staple Hill Railway - New Line
Good to see you back James, I saw your ebay auctions, they looked very good, I hope they sold well. Your line is look really good now it's settling into its landscape. Re: Staple Hill Railway - New Line
Hello everyone! I can't believe my last post was in June - I should be sacked from the forum! Here's hoping you all had a wonderful summer with loads of running. Since my last post, things have slowed somewhat, work has been ridiculous in the last 6 months and on my odd days off, we didn't have good...

Re: Quick 3D printed flat wagon
Nice, James. Did you print the wheels or are they bought in? I have seen printable wheels on Thingiverse. Thanks Philip The wheels are Swift Sixteen - I have a lot in stock - hardly worth printing them, they are pence from SS.....I am unsure how the PLA or ABS would last if printed. Are you going t...

Quick 3D printed flat wagon
I am sure you all know that I have been messing around with 3D printing. I have a few projects on the go but wanted to try a quick wagon. This was made from start to finish in 3 hours - that's 2 hours for the chassis to print and then clean it up and then an hour to add the wood top, detail and pain...

Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
Thanks. A number of interesting points here. First though, I actually bought the dual head Qidi, partly because it has a slightly bigger print bed and partly to allow for printing supports to overhangs, etc, in the future. So far however I'm only using one head, I haven't even got any dissolvable f...

Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
James, Have you done any experimenting to reduce the surface print pattern and thus reduce the post production work? I'm thinking of, say, reducing print speed and/or increasing extrusion temperature? It's something that I want to play with, although with what I've been printing so far its more of ...

Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
Since Phiply and I are on a mission to get to grips with 3D printing...here is a teaser of my next project: I am using 3D printed parts to create masters for resin mould, (the parts need post printing treatment with wet and dry) - trying a little loco for some fun! https://farm5.staticflickr.com/411...

Mini update.... I had been bothered for a few weeks that I hadn't steamed my Regner Konrad in a while so I dusted it off and had a lovely hour long run on the skip train....and made a little video for you guys. Sorry for the shaky hand held shot in the first 20 seconds or so. https://www.youtube.com...

slicing ..... I have tried several but get far better results from MatterControl. Hi James, I'm actively looking at 3d printing again. I quite like the look of MatterControl, compared to, say, Makerbot and Replicator G. However, I've just downloaded it ( 3 times!) from the Mattercontrol site and my...

Re: SVLR new loco - ERYRI
Hi. That's a lovely little loco you have there and your plans for it sound great too. I bought an RH Bulldog last year and if you look back through my posts, you will see that I too was very reluctant to weather the lovely paintwork! I did go for it in the end (with a little encouragement from my fo...

Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
James, I noted earlier in the thread that you used 3D Builder in Windows for your drawing work. I've never used that before so I thought I'd have play with it this morning to see how I got on. Unfortunately it no longer seems to exist!! Windows 10 did a mega "upgrade" ( took 2 hours in to...

Re: Staple Hill Railway - New Line
Great update James - loving the ballasting -especially the oily mix. I also have been drilling into the legs of my people for the very same reason - I have a passenger MIA after the winds - I can see his feet but he's wedged down between two fence panels - I've rung the mines emergency team and ask...

Hi James, The ballasting looks a treat, what material are you using please? (I'm just about to start mine). Your line is looking really good, I love the coaling area. Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
This printer is available from Amazon at around the £300 mark, Hi James, Thanks for the replies. I hadn't come across this manufacturer when I was looking before, so interested to see it. Which model do you have? You mention " around £300 " but there seem to be two models, one at ca. £400...

Re: Learning how to 3D print loco parts
Really interesting. I love the concept of 3d printing but am struggling to justify the expenditure. I assume the more you pay the better the quality of outcome. Rik Hi Rik This printer is available from Amazon at around the £300 mark, the filament is around £16 per Kilo (which as far as I can see w...
