Re: Coaches for the Kotanga Tramway.

The Tin Van now has a roof (brutally hacked out of the original Accucraft roof on a linisher), plus trial pieces of straight and curved 1/24 scale corrugated, er, aluminium (ticking on with ticky tape):

Annie, I've now found a crisper photo of said wagon: ./myff/1963976/Sharpie+Van.jpg and have made some slow progress with my Western Australia rake. Here's the inner body (without corrugated), shortened from an Accucraft W&L van: ./myff/2056563/IMG_5381+small.jpg You might ask why the 'sep' hea...

Philip,
I think we've all taken that approach for granted, and have just been trying to answer Sandy's specific question literally:
Is there anyway of removing this lettering without there being a shadow left behind?

I tried the toothpaste route and even tried  denture paste but to no avail. Shame, Sandy. Since similar Accucraft wagons do have subtle build variations, such as in the wheelsets, they may well have variations in paints and lettering too.     For the record, I've used Colgate with a manual toothbru...

Youse ain't gonna believe this, hombres, but try toothpaste. Solvents do work but are risky. Bad for skin, eyes, nose, lungs, bloodstream, liver and braincell. I've just taken off a small G from a W&L flatcar (to prove I still can, given all the wise things GTB said) and feel a headache coming ...

Mr Brix, the answer to your question is "Lots" :-) But here is a sidestep and a distraction from it that might solve someone's problem but should probably fork off to another topic. I'm using a night-school wood cutting laser to cut thin metal. - coat metal with paint - coat reverse side w...

When I loaded the page, it opened at the Land Rover with the pig, and I thought, "What Daft Beggar's uploaded a full-sized Land Rover!" OK OK I'm due to go to SpecSavers, but that's one damned good photo of a damned good model.
[Land Rover's pretty good too :-)]

New in Box 1/18 scale diecast Land Rovers are fairly common and usually cheap. They work out at 23" gauge on 32mm track, suitable for the Festiniog one, and 32" gauge on 45mm track. Look out for 1/24 scale plastic kits, which scale out at Cape Gauge, as used in the Far East. 1/32 scale one...

Re: Road vehicles on rail plus the last of the o/h wiring to

A couple of road vehicles modified for rail.  A commercial motorised rear axle would have some appeal I would imagine. Anyone looking for inspiration might enjoy the Kiwi variety: http://tinyurl.com/josxve3 For powering a back-axle, there are some choices at IP Engineering: http://www.ipengineering...

I grew up with it, Sandy, and couldn't agree more. If I have a complaint, it's the dark colour, but your pictures look more golden - very attractive as a backdrop. And it grows so fast from scratch, too! Here's Neil Ramsey's brilliant use of it. What looks like a ground-level track is actually chest...

Do evaporate-off every last molecule of meths and water - I once forgot I'd put a warm meths-fired Mamod in a sandwich box and, when I came back to it, the paint had softened and was badly blistered, and the exposed steel had rusted :-( David 1/2d

A good spray of wd40  over everything won't hurt I'd recommend WD40 as a spray cleaner only, and wipe off as much as possible. I'd be very wary indeed of "a good spray over everything". WD40 is mostly solvents, and is good at diluting oil and muck. However there's no point in leaving it o...

Re: Accucraft Coupling replacements - what do you use?

What do others use to couple if you don't use the std Accucraft chopper coupling? I can't abide choppers - never got the hang of them - so I just take off the whole Accucraft unit and replace with a cast brass 'Lincoln Pin' bell-mouth. OK it's no longer Prototypical for any railway that used 'Norwe...

My advice is to get a cat of your own - the cat-flap is the essence of Regular Territory Patrols. The benefit is that your cat will nip elsewhere with its own misdeeds, whereas even a dog small enough for a dog-flap still leaves you on Pooper Scooper duty.
