Re: Ffestiniog Prince.

Hi.
I am still of the impression that the above old photo shows old paint. Maybe it is before AG got his paint brush out. :)

Re: Ffestiniog Prince.

Hi Andrew. I took delivery last Thursday. This is it's/his/her first gentle run in steam on blocks. A little sticky yet but to be expected. The colour is quite vivid and shiny but I do like the green. Screenshot_20211109-152223_Gallery.jpg Not sure yet about name. Palmerston - I have no affinity wit...

Ffestiniog Prince.

Hi all. Old photos of Prince working its first trains across the Cob in 1955 show it to be painted in green but it does not look to be in good condition. Would members think, like me, that there is a good chance that although Prince had been rebuilt with a new boiler by the new order, this was the o...

Roofing slates on the cheap.

Hi all. 1000+ roofing slates stacked up ready for loading into wagons and run down to Port. IMG_20210801_174257.jpg Having bought 4 Slaters FR 2 ton slate wagons I wanted loads for them but I wanted the load to look like individual hand cut slates. I wanted to make them from something that did not h...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

Hi George.
Here is my 'VoF' minus a few body details. Although 4 motors were included with the kit I only fitted 1 in each bogie as I considered this was more than enough power for my limited stock. I can easily fit the other 2 later if necessary.

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

Hi George. When you fit the electrics are you going for the full forward/reverse lighting setup. It entails a lot of wiring and led fitting but the effort is well rewarded. I used the electronics supplied by Yatton including the sound card option. If you get into difficulty i found John at Yatton to...

Re: Yatton Models - Vale of Ffestiniog

Hi all. Just a tip from me. When buying a rattle can from your local car parts dealer, always flip off the cap and check that it has not been used and then not inverted to clear the nozzle. My thoughts are of unscrupulous modellers asking to take a can outside to check colour in daylight and having ...

Re: Peter Farley

Really sorry to hear the sad news about Peter Farley. I have bought 4 of his kits over the past year, a Baldwin, De Winton, Quarry Hunslet and a Leanne that i have yet to start, and on the odd occasion that I have had to speak to him over the phone i have found him to be amiable and helpful. I hope ...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

The green is a colour I have used on a few of my builds including a WHR buffet car and the FR `mystery coach`. It is Wilco's own 'Lawn Green' for the body and Antique White for the roof.

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi Jimmy.
The table tilts about 20° up or down.
There are a few different models available and they may be different in this respect. If you decide to buy also be aware that some models come with only one belt and no power pack.

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi Jimmy.
If you look at the photo of the machine on my workbench you can see the screw that holds the table to the body. This can be loosened with the supplied Allen key to allow you to tilt the table up and down. I will add a photo in a few minutes.

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi Rick. I agree with you entirely about the initial outlay of any tool really. I can justify it to myself by saying the only cost to produce this brake van is the cost of this tool and just paint and a couple of centre buffers as i already have wood, wheels, bearings etc. And i will have the sander...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all. While cutting stripwood for the sides of the van I was wondering on the best way of cutting the angles on both ends of the 12 angled strips either side of the doors. I have a Dremel type machine that takes small sanding disks but I was not sure how I could hold and sand accurately. Looking a...

Re: FR. Sentry box brake van.

Hi all.
Progress to date. I have cut and glued the side frameworks. Also I have made doors to open and trial fitted them. The below photo shows the sides test fitted to the chassis with an elastic band but please be aware nothing has been cleaned up yet.
