Garden Railway Forum

Hello all,

I'm Jon and my line's called the Billington Light Railway or BLR. Its not very long and infact, it gets relaid once or twice a month to keep the parents happy but it works. Current stock includes 3 Passenger Coaches, 5 trucks, 2 brake vans, a battery electric and my pride and joy:- A Accurcraft Leader.

Here's a few photos of the line in some of its many forms along with some of my latest projects being worked on.

I take it you're not going to be allowed to build a permanent line (yet)?

Well, as the landlords keep changing thier minds, its a case of when the fences get replaced then they'll make a final decision.

Once I return from a away trip to a local museum where I'm helping to exhibt a LGB/G45 layout this weekend, I shall take you loads as the engine has now been finished including a RC conversion. Hopefully I'll have pictures for you on either sunday or monday.

Just make them watch youtube videos of some of the more "gardeny" lines. Not the ones that look like busy little model train sets, but ones that fit unobtrusively into leafy garden settings, with the rails disappearing and re-appearing around foliage. I think parents and wives are more amenable to the idea of a garden railway when they can see that they are not forfeiting their gardens to thousands of miniature houses and shunting yards, but are going to enjoy the planting and rockery that will be taking place.

...unless you are after a busy model train set kind of look, then you'll have to adopt some other strategy, like buying your father a model locomotive for Christmas.

If only it was that easy to pursuade my parents.....

Evening all,

Since the last post, I've been busy working on some buildings for the line. Namely the two running sheds and the main platform. All three made using my ACAP principle (As Cheap As Possible). Although I've only managed to get photographs of two in the gardan, all 3 should look great once painted.











Ironically, the last building (the carriage shed) is the one that's most likely to see track laid for its use over the other shed.

Comments/suggestions on how to paint these buildings more than welcome.

Keep up the good work, your experimenting with line configurations will help you when you can be more permanent.
