Here's a photo of 'Ttarrag Shed' - the portable layout of the 16mm Garratt Owners & Operators Association.

We've currently around 13 shows booked for 2008 so could be exhibiting at a venue near you!

The photo just shows a general view of the layout.

The small workshop (in front of the maroon Garratt & tank wagon) is due to be replaced by a larger structure & there'll also be a new building where the small diesel is sitting.

Moving past the water tower, you'll see the working (award winning) coal tower that was built by Eddie Bull.

The signal box is just past the coal tower & the main loco shed & another water tower are at the far end.

When full to capacity, this layout will accomadate 21 Garratts!

The driver on duty at the back in one of the 16mmGO&OA shirts (these are available to anyone) is Bob Kirchner.
Bob drives & assists with the layout at many of the shows we go to & is a dyed in the wool railwayman in real life!

Ttarrag Shed measures 30' by 10' & has expanded from an original size of 6' long by 8' deep - it will get no larger (yes, i know i've said that before!!).

This photo was taken at the Large Scale Rail Show at the Fosse way Exhibition Centre in June 2007. Since then, we've added colour light signalling, a small jungle & many more buildings & bits & pieces.
For 2008 - just look out for the new pub, the 'Articulated Arms' & pay particular attention to the first floor - over 18's only i'm afraid...

Everything on the layout is about to become fully lit following the installation of a 12volt 'ring main' under the boards & more colour light signals will be added.

Many ask where 'Ttarrag Shed' is based - it's somewhere between Africa & Wales with a few other bits of the world thrown in for good measure...

Where does the name 'Ttarrag' originate from? Read it backwards...

A working coal tower!!!!!!!!

'tis cool, somone ought to get one of those Funkeys and shove it on there, to drag a garratt.

Is that the Accucraft Baugley??

When we were up at Dinas on the Welsh Highland Railway with the layout last time, we did run a Funkey diesel.
Normally, we wouldn't permit that, but as we were at the WHR & the real one stood outside, we thought, why not...

Yes, it's the Accucraft - it's non powered at the mo.

Shortly it'll be fitted with a new chassis from the 'shops' at South Arbury & will pull a house down! I may even permanantly marry it up with another diesel to form a pair to perform the mundane tasks around the shed when a passed steam driver is unavailable...

Not powerful enough to pull a dead Garratt!

You get what you pay for & sadly, an Accucraft diesel chassis wouldn't last 5 minutes with those sort of loads!

I have nothing against them, but they are not designed to pull dead Garratts around - it will when i've finished with it though...

What sort of weight is one of those coal fired NG16s when its dead????

Hmmmmm, now there's an idea for the next project. of course it should really be the WHR version in "as bought" condition.

To be honest, i don't know Jim!

What i do know is that you don't want to be carrying them too far from your van to the exhibition venue!

I have to agree that no way a 1 baguly could haul an NG16, you'd need 2!. (better get ian on the phone).

Hey Paul Sherwood, is that Green Earl I see on the other layout?!!!

Me and Ian tried pulling my caradoc dead up his big hill on wet rails with our baguleys, and didn't manage it! Though I think his battery was dying

Yes it is, but the last post in this topic was 3 years and 2 months ago, so you're grave digging a bit!

Trying to generate interest in old posts why leave them in the distant pass. No grave diggin here just regeneration!
