Hello there, I've heard of a few different types of mamod, but how can you identify which is which?

All of them apart from the SL6 (which is the golden jubillee speical) say SLX (X being the number) on the rear cabsheet

That could be a slight problem Considering its been painted twice since I've owned her, and one or twice before that!

Ah! That is a slight problem! erm, unless there is still original paint under that anywhere i dont know how to identify it other wise, cause the colour would give it away!

I can, tell you the original colour! Marroon!

Its at SL2 or 3 then, i think SL3 more likely, as as far as i know all the SL1s were green, and an SL4 is Princess of Wales which was a reddy marron colour! But i doubt someones done that to one of those! SL5 are blue and SL6 are purple! And i think SL2s were mostly light blue, but im sure someone can correct me on those!

I never realised they were different numbers based on colour!

Mamods were technically all the same. The only differences between them were the funnels [straight stack or diamond-shaped smokestack; and then black or brass ovariations of the latter] and the colour liveries.

SLK - black with -red- lining
SL1 -Hunter green, white lining
SL2 -Lada blue, "" , had a black diamond stack
SL3 -Maroon, "" , had a brass diamond stack
SL4 - Deep Blue "" "" [Prince of Wales Special ed]
SL5 - Cherry red, "" [Princes of Wales Spec ed]
SL6 - Purple, gold lining

may be worth mentioning the SLK is the kit form and is put together with nuts and bolts rather than rivets.

Cheers for the help, a little knowledge goes a long way, just given the boiler its first coat of black, should hopefully have it all complete by monday so heavey testing
