Unbeknown to Dereck, the gas filler valve was loose and leaking badly.
When he'd gassed up, he had a little chat before ignition allowing loads of gas to escape and flood the loco (the reduced pressure in the tank also meant a "lazy" jet in the flue!)

One flick off the lighter and it was off

The flames caught the wiring insulation and plastic receiver housing which helped keep it going!

Sir Haydn has her "in works" at the moment - don't know if he can take any photo's to show the extent of the fire damage?
I know that with three of us squirting a steady stream of water over the bodywork, it seems to have saved (most) of the paintwork. You certainly can't tell by looking at the loco just how bad the fire actually was

the fire un soldered the body anchoring points and the handrails. The reciever, swtich and one servo where melted! most of the wiring insulation had melted off the servos where knackered (presumably unsoldered internal joints) the trimline had frazzeled to a crisp and some paintwork damage. I think that is about the extent of it! photos on my works thread

Ouch, that sounds like a lot of damage. I'm sure it can all be sorted but it's a bit of a pain.
