I went along to Bob's Open Day today, he has a very nice long run of a Gauge One layout in his garden.

After a service, his GWR King James I was in steam for the first time in a long while.



He has another railway in the garden as well...



The 'other' railway is the Green Deene Railway, which is 10 1/4" gauge. Today was the first day in passenger hauling service for Bob Symes' new toy, a 14XX built by Joe Nemeth Engineering Ltd. As you all know, I'm not enamoured with the GWR but this loco is the bees knees. It truly is an exquisite thing.



The other loco on the line is a Burry Port 0-6-0T, think 'Butch' in five inch gauge but a lot bigger and you get the idea. I took this loco for a couple of return trips, brilliant romping up the 1 in 25 bank with two loaded coaches!

Wow! Every time I see his railway it impresses me. That 14xx is something else!

Great pics Si, lucky you visiting Bod Syme's Railways, the gauge 1 one is nicely scenic, and the 10 1/4 one has come a long way since I saw some very early pics of it in Railway World 10 years or so ago

Wow, wow, wow, I must have one of those 14xxs! I've never really seen anything in this scale but this is great, how long is the run on the larger scale line?

Not very long, about a third of a mile I'd say.

I have been following the build for a long time, I believe the loco was at Ally Pally though I may be wrong.

I've just had look through, very impressive.

Was the 0-6-0T resident in Gloucestershire for a while? I'm sure it was on the line at Cattle Country for a while- along with a heavy freight 2-8-0 (or possibly two). If not, it was a very similar loco.

The auto tank takes the prize though, it's gorgeous.

I remember as a young kid watching Bob Symes railway programmes & loving every minute.

Fantastic! and by sheer coincidence, I've just (yesterday) watched the episode of "The Garden Railway" when Mark Found visited Bob, his lines & workshop - great stuff.

Yep, the very same.

There were two 47XX, one is now at the Ingfield Manor Railway. I'm not sure where the other one is at the moment, possibly the same place.

Thought it was- only saw them once when they were tucked up in the shed, was there for a party in the evening so no trains running.

The 47xx was something else- I'd have loved to have seen the pair together!

The 47xx locos used to be together at Oakhill Manor Railway, now long closed. Bob's Burry Port Tank is actualy a dobuled up 5inch simplex that used to be called titan and ran in St Mary's hospital and several other locations. I do believe that Bob also has a GWR Flying Banana rail car... Am very gealous of Bobs railway, but prefer my
10 1/4 lococs on the larger side, as I believe fidling around is for model railways not passenger carrying lines.
