I have had my MSS 0-4-0T engine for a while now, and since purchase (second hand) have undertaken to improve it. I named him 'Victor' after my late grandfather whose inhritance money I used to purchase the engine along with a circle of Mamod track, added my own lining (which I must admit I was not happy with) and made my own nameplates from brass strip and stickers laid over the top. He then looked like this:



Having come into some money recently, I have bought some parts today from IP Engineering and PPS to upgrade him mechanically. As well as this, I am going to Halfords tomorrow to get some paint stripper, primer and paint to repaint him into a new colour, most likely a deep blue, similar to the S&DJR Prussian Blue.

Once he is running well, I may send him to Lightlines to be professionally lined and I will order some new nameplates from PPS. Then I will undertake some superdetailing such as a coal bunker, firing irons on the top of the tanks and a driver from Busybodies. I will post progress here!

Victor is currently in bits, and I hope to post some progress pics tomorrow during the paint session...

Can't wait for progress Si, I'm planning to have a go at some linning in the future, since I found out in the summer that signwriting isn't as hard as it looks(!).

I am quite good at signwriting letters, but when it comes to doing straight lines I might as well give it up!

I just use trimline for my lining. For basic single line with square corners it works a treat.

Just been to Halfords and have bought the paint stripper, primer and the choice of paint. Victor will now, after mods, appear in a deep blue. It is called:

Vauxhall King's Blue

Quite fitting as my surname is King

I'm not sure if I have a scraper anyway, so the paint job may have to wait a week or so

I have heard of Trimline from a number of people, I may use it

I'm going into Worthing tomorrow, to become a member of the 'West Sussex O Gauge Group'.

I have a half day on Wednesday, and a whole day off on Thursday so that is when I shall start work

My PPS Parts and IP Engineering bits should have arrived by then as well, so Victor should be ready by the weekend

Fat chance , sorry for the negativity, but what are the chances of your mum being out, you being in & the oven being free?

My mum is normally out on Thursday, but I'm sure with some persuasion I shall be able to use the oven

But that's assuming the 'Royal Mail' delivers your parts.

I've had lots of problems recently with my delivery service, or lack there of!

Royal Mail have been quite good recently, post has been delivered the day after it was posted! Including a parcel, so who knows

Im going to trimline my Edrig if I'm not happy with the locolines ones. But that's when the Edrig arrives! Should be any day now (they said the 21st).

Locolines are good on some batches and horrid on others. A freind in NWAG used locolines on 2 engines. The first was Great (almost lightline standard) but the second you could see all the transfer edgings and it did look a bit horrid (for lack of a better word)

well, due to my budget, I probably couldnt afford Lightline, so I will try Locolines, if that's horrid, I will Trimline.

Having searched the garage, there is no sign of a paint scraper. I had hoped to do the paint removal this afternoon seeing as I finished college early but the lack of scraper prevented this

Hopefully when I get home tomorrow, the local joinery will be open and I can get a scraper then. Then I can begin the painting session

I used trimline on my millie, but with a black border that was painted using tamiya acrylic. If you use proper low tack masking tape, you cam make a really good job of it. See this months garden rail and Keith Brown's article ( I saw it on his website first, and followed the instructions from there)

Ive only just got dec GR so were a bit behind here
